8. Importance of
Biodiversity
since a healthy ecosystem
relies on different kinds of
species to work together,
presence of different kinds of
organisms makes the
ecosystem balanced.
20. Carrying Capacity is the
maximum size of the
population an environment
can support
21. Farmers must be careful to not let cattle
overgraze. Once an area is overgrazed it can
take a long time for nutrients to return to the
soil, and for grasses to regrow. In the
meantime, the area has reached its carrying
capacity as it can no longer sustain any new
cattle. Perhaps the carrying capacity has even
been surpassed if the area cannot fully
support some of the existing cattle.
22.
23. Limiting factors is anything that
constrains/limits the a population’s size
and slows or stops it from growing. Some
examples of limiting factors are foods,
mates, and competition with organisms for
resources.
24. If there are not enough prey animals
in a forest to feed a large population
of predators, then food becomes a
limiting factor. Likewise, if there is
not enough space in a pond for a
large number of fish, then space
becomes a limiting factor.
