2. The Proposal
For my extended project I set out to create an advertising
campaign for the shoe company Vans. Bringing together one or
a couple of print based adverts that will be seen across the
media sector. To create these print based advertisements I need
to do some research on advertising itself and the different
elements of it. As well as analyzing previous print based adverts
not necessarily by Vans but a company that has the same
concept and a theme of skateboarding.
I will then plan my photoshoot and then go forward with the
shoot. I intended to use no models to keep the campaign on a
low budget. After my shoot and any other needed shoots have
been done I will take the photos onto Photoshop and edit and
enhance the image as well as, inserting computer graphics e.g.
logo and borders. After these things have been done and then
the finished adverts have been printed, I will look into potential
costs of putting my advert into the ideal magazines so it can
appeal to the right target audience.
3. Research
• Advertising is the promotion of a company's products and services carried out
primarily to drive up sales of the products and services. It is also done to build
a brand identity and communicate changes in old products or introduce new
product/services to the customers. Advertising has become an essential
element of the corporate world and hence companies allocate a
considerable amount of resources towards their advertising budget. There are
several reasons for advertising.
• From the research I learnt a lot from different ways of advertising to
techniques and methods in print based advertising.
• I also researched and analysed similar shoe adverts from two different brands.
This broadened my knowledge for advertising and it also gave me ideas
towards my production.
4. Planning
• So I started to plan my advertising campaign, drawing out
designs and getting feedback from it to then adapt the
designs again.
• I also wrote out a location shot list and a risk assessment
towards my photoshoot making sure it was all safe and able
to do.
• I then went to the location choosing the backdrops I wanted
to use and planning the shots I wanted to capture.
5. Photoshoot
• My photoshoot went really well. I captured the best
photos for what I wanted and I was lucky to
capture a couple of good pictures allowing me to
have then more than one advert. That then
extended my project a lot more to outdoor
advertisement. So I then went back and researched
into outdoor advertisement looking at the
advantages and disadvantages.
6. Final Product
• These two print based images are my final two adverts that I
edited and enhanced through Photoshop. Changing the
colour filter over the shot and then adding and editing
copyright free graphics off the internet.
• The editing stage for me went quite smoothly but I did have
the decision over other photos. I thought that these two
especially worked out well and really sold the shoes.

9. Evaluation
• What would I change?
• If I was to do this project again I would use my time wisely and
not leave it to the last minute because that’s exactly what I
did. Leaving the photoshoot till last minute and then not
showing my stages of production and editing either.
• I would also broaden my advertising campaign by going into
more types of advertising. Creating a moving image advert or
even a jingle.
• What I thought went well?
• I feel that my final products came out really well and my
editing and when I did my photoshoot it went all really well
and I was happy with what I had produced.
