1. Microsoft announces launch of Microsoft Teams for Office
365 users
Does the launch of Microsoft Teams mean that Skype, SharePoint and Yammer
will become redundant? Find out with what Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella has to
say and if Microsoft Team will really replace the existing communication stack of
Microsoft.
Microsoft has announced the launch of Microsoft Teams, which is a complete hub
for teamwork for Office 365 users. It allows group chats, gives access to content,
tools, people and everything that a person needs to work in Office 365.
But wait a minute?
Does it mean Yammer, Skype and SharePoint or what is known as Microsoft
communication stack are redundant now?
As per Satya Nadella, it won’t go away. It all is here to stay as per the requirement
of every team. He himself check Yammer every morning to find out what’s going
on in his organization. He added, "Yammer is a bulletin board for the entire
organization, Skype is where instant, real-time communications happen." While
2. talking about Microsoft Teams chat, he said, it works well asynchronously, for
more informal and casual conversations.
Nadella also said, "What underpins all of these tools is a very powerful platform,"
said Nadella. "A common identity, a common profile, across all of these tools
powered by Azure Active Directory."
The fact that Yammer is not going away was emphasized at Microsoft’s Ignite
Conference. Microsoft showed that Yammer and Office 365 will undergo a deeper
integration and also the fact that there were several plans in the pipeline to do
that. There is Skype for Business in Office 365
Instant communication exists via Office 365’s Skype for Business, but once you've
left the chat space, the conversation disappears. There is also Slack, which allows
teams to create their own public or private "chatrooms" and be able to work from
multiple devices. Slack became popular with organizations since it is a more
informal way of communication.
In a video that introduces Microsoft Teams, the benefits of Microsoft Teams are
covered in the most comprehensive way.
Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president for the Office team adds, “We built
Microsoft Teams because we see both tremendous opportunity and tremendous
change in how people and teams get work done. Teams are now more agile and
organizational structures more flat to keep communications and information
flowing”.
Microsoft Teams is a new and contemporary way for teams to have
conversations. It helps to keep a record of threaded chats and ensures that
everyone involved is engaged. The team conversations are visible to all team
3. members and also the feature to have private chats. There is also the ability to
have voice and video conferences using Skype.
And guess what?
There is option to add emojis, GIFs, custom memes and stickers.
There’s Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneNote, Planner, Power BI and
Delve…all built into Microsoft Teams and which can be used by Office 365
users. Basically everything users need for their day-to-day working packed into
one and with the ability to have contemporary way to communicate.
Office 365 users expect enhanced security in Microsoft Teams, and that is what
exactly Microsoft provides- enhanced security. It meets security standards like ISO
27001, ISO 27018, EUMC, SOC 1 Type I & II, SOC 2 Type I and II, HIPAA and FERPA.
