2. Ethical metal detecting is important to maintaining this
hobby that many of us love so much. Unethical behavior
by a small number of individuals has given metal
detecting a bad name and put it under the pressure of
laws and bans. Give metal detecting a good name by
acting ethically and preserve this hobby for future
generations.

3. #1 - I will follow all laws relating to metal detecting on
federal and state lands as well as any laws pertaining
to local areas I may be searching.
Do Your Research… Know the laws for your area…
Don’t make assumptions…

4. #2 - I will respect private property and attain the
owners permission before metal detecting.
Never Trespass… Always obtain permission…

5. #3 - I will recover targets in a way that will not
damage or kill vegetation and I will fill in holes
completely leaving the area looking as it was.
Do everything in your ability to leave the land in the same or
better condition than you found it…

6. #4 - I remove all trash found and dispose it of
properly.
Removing any trash found is a great service that metal
detectorists can provide for the community…

7. #5 - I will report discovery of any items that have
significant historical value to the proper authorities.
Working with archeologists or the proper authorities to report
historical finds is important for learning about and preserving our
history…

8. #6 - I will use common courtesy and common sense at
all times.
Don’t be combative if approached with questions… Strive to
present a good image for our hobby…

9. #7 - I will set a good example of how people should
enjoy the lawful hobby of recreational metal detecting.
This sums it all up… Set a good example and preserve the hobby
of metal detecting for current and future generations…
