2. “Test scores and measures of
achievement tell you where a student
is, but they don’t tell you where a
student could end up”– Carol Dweck
I believe that helping other students understand the growth mindset,
and they can recognize that everyone has the potential to develop
their skills and learn. It does not matter if they come into class in
“low or high ability groups,” both groups are more than capable of
growing and learning.
3. Focus: Promoting a Growth Mindset in the
Classroom
◦ By helping students develop a growth mindset in the classroom, I will help them understand that they are more than capable of
learning anything.
◦I want learners to understand that intelligence can be developed; it is not something you are born with. The brain is a muscle, and it
is capable of changing! Every time you work hard, stretch yourself and attempt to learning something new, the brain forms
connections, and over time you become “smarter.”
◦I would also want my students to understand that the process of learning is more important than getting good grades. The focus
should be on learning and improving.
4. Why is the Growth Mindset Important?
•I will start off by sharing this TED talk video
on Schoology with my students. In this video,
Rebecca shares her experience of joining the
Student Council at her elementary school.
•Rebecca talks about how she feels when she is
forced by her mother to take up the challenge.
She talked about how she was able to shift her
fixed mindset into a growth mindset.
5. Learn to Hear Your “Fixed” Mindset
On Schoology, I will post the following visuals to show
students better how to hear their fixed mindset voice. One of
the visuals that I found helpful is the one that can be found on
the course.
6. Learn to Hear Your “Fixed” Mindset
I will provide students with examples of possible “fixed” mindset talk on our Schoology course:
◦“I can’t do this homework.”
◦“If I have to work hard, then that means I am not smart.”
◦“I feel jealous when I see my peers do better than me
◦I made a mistake. I must be dumb
◦I am not a math/reading/writing/science person
◦Math is too hard!
7. Recognize That You Have a Choice
I will provide students with the following
video and articles to help them recognize that
they have a choice and how to develop a more
of a growth mindset. The report will help
students understand how they
can GROW their intelligence and how the
brain is like a muscle; it changes when you use
it.

8. Talk Back to it with a Growth Mindset Voice
I will post the
following video
and visuals to
help students
talk back to
their “fixed”
mindset by
instead saying
“I can’t,” say “I
can’t YET.”

9. I will also provide students with the following to students
through Schoology to help them talk back to their fixed
mindset voice. .
10. Take the Growth Mindset Action
To help students begin taking the
first steps of working towards a
growth mindset, I will show
students the following video and
assist them in creating a “growth
mindset journal.” Students will
focus on a different idea each day
and reflect on how they will use it
in their lives and the classroom.
