•The planning phase can include obtaining information from
the community or stakeholders that will assist with
developing the project & identify issues early
•Example - conducting a survey of schools within an area to
ascertain student travel data & local information to assist
with infrastructure development.

•Brief the Dept of Education & schools about the proposed
project and seek any initial feedback.
•Seek support for the survey
•Inform, Consult & Engage them!

Who Can Conduct the Survey?
Options are:
• Organize an independent local organization (research
organization?) to assist with the data collection
• Use local government resources?
• The school or local university could conduct the survey
using their students?

•Number of students at the school
•Modes of travel to/from school (walk, bus, motorcycle, car)
•Locations of students' homes (distance from school)
•Parking areas in and around schools
