1. Q2 - Evaluation
How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
2. The main social group attracted to our
film are teenagers, especially girls as
females tend to be more interested in
romance films than males. To
demonstrate that the main characters
are typical teenagers, they’re dressed
in fairly informal, casual clothing along
with accessories like a hat. Also, we
included certain props like smart
phones which will attract teenagers as
the majority of young people have the
latest technology so they an relate to
the film easier than the older
generation.
3. The way in which we’ve portrayed our
characters is in a stereotypical way. For
example, girls are proven to be more
organised and appreciate educational
values than boys. Therefore, we made
our main female teenage character come
across very intellectual by making her
read a book and not worry about phones
too much unless it’s used as her alarm
for her medication.
4. Because girls are more respectful towards educational values, we decided to also make our
main male character portray a typical male teenager. An example of this is by including a
prop, in this case a smart phone, that he can’t take his eyes off which suggests he’s avoiding
the world around him and technology is a big part of his life. Also, his clothing is fairly trendy
and he’s wearing mainstream brands such as Nike which suggests fashion is a priority in his
life.
5. The demographic code for our film is mainly focusing in the ‘E’ band as our film is mainly
aimed for teenagers and students are located within this particular category. The ‘E’ category
will be represented in or opening sequence from the use of costumes and the teenager’s
mainstream clothing. It will also be represented through the use of props such as mobile
phones and through the use on dialogue and the way they talk.
