2. possible? It is important to remember that addiction is a powerful problem that tends to keep
people in denial for a very long time. Until they are willing to admit that they have a problem, it
is not possible to address issues with dependence. An intervention may be one possible way
to make someone see that there is a problem if he or she cannot see it for themselves.
Step #2 – Look at Your Options
While most sober people are unable to understand this, recovery can be scary and
overwhelming for someone who struggles with dependence. This is why it is a good idea to
remove some of the anxiety by exploring the different treatment options that are available. Do
not just force someone into a program, but remember to make them an active part of the
process instead. This not only increases the odds of finding a suitable recovery program that
will work, but also makes the process seem a lot less intimidating.
Step #3 – Make Sure that You Ask for Professional Help
While exploring is one thing, at some point you will have to settle down and enter into a
specific program. You want to make sure that this is a reputable rehabilitation program with a
high success rate. Some of the signs that you may have found the right program include:
Aftercare programs or at least the recognition that recovery is an ongoing process
Theutilization of a variety of treatment methods
Qualified staff members
Proven effectiveness (meaning the facility has facts that can prove its success
rates)
Step #4 – Continue Treatment
Once the person walks out of the treatment program, the rehabilitation process is not over.
Support and aftercare programs are essential if the patient wants long-term success. This is
a great place for family members and friends to step in and provide support.
Step #5 – Realize it is an Ongoing Process
