2. After 16 years of development course in Greece and abroad, providing classification and
statutory services of high quality Phoenix opens its wings for the next sailing.
Understanding the needs of the shipping community, Phoenix realized the necessity of
proper training for building future managers on land and sea. With high sense of
responsibility, Phoenix established the PHOENIX Academy, demonstrating actively its
faith in the power of education as a unique tool for a better future.
Armed with the deep knowledge of maritime issues and on the basis of recognized
standards, is assessing and approving maritime educational institutions curricula.
3. Academic Director, Isidoros Pachoundakis, also serves as an Academic Coordinator of e-
Learning Maritime studies in the Department of Economics at University of Piraeus.
He is accompanied by a dynamic group of instructors from universities, research
institutions and frontline professionals in shipping industry and with this highly qualified
staff the Phoenix Maritime Academy aims to meet essential training needs of the market,
hoping to contribute in its own way to build capable maritime executives.

6. Training
The experience regarding classification, the high competency combined with the close
cooperation with academic institutions and experienced shipping executives not only in
the Hellenic region, but abroad as well, they create the basic cognitive axis for the
of Phoenix Academy’s training courses.
These courses, initially aimed at the training of maritime executives regarding
ISM/ISPS/MLC codes. However, they have been enriched, covering a wider agenda,
including issues such as the proper handling of the human factor as a the leading
in safety issues as well as more sensitive issues, related to intercultural differences, such
as cultural and religious diversities that coexist on the vessels and the shipping
companies.

The trainees acquire professional certificates and diplomas of specialization from
Phoenix Academy, which seems to be one of the most dynamic and probably uniquely
adapted to the actual requirements of modern shipping companies.
The e-learning method of the University of Piraeus in collaboration with Phoenix
of Shipping offers directly to the students of maritime programs, upon the completion
their studies, additional certification-recognition according to the quality characteristics
of the International and European standards.
