4. Fiber emerging – How did it happened?
Market deregulated in 1993
City networks emerging in the mid 90s
The purpose was to challenge the incumbent
Government proposal in 2000: “Sweden should be a society where information is
accessible to all”
Financial package USD 0.9bn
National backbone
Access & regional networks
Public institutions
Large investment in fiber by city networks
Traditional operators soon followed…

5. So what lessons have we learned?
Fiber is a long-term infrastructure investment
Know your business case and act accordingly!
Important to secure a first-mover advantage
A silver medal in this case is not very good!
Operational efficiency is key in the long run
Achive operational excellence!
An eco system and business model based on several players....is wise
Do what you are best at!
