Abstract
• An active method for double-frequency power ripple decoupling in single-phase inverters is
presented in this PROJECT, exhibiting the main advantage of not using additional power
semiconductors besides the H-bridge.
• The proposed method requires only two capacitors placed between the midpoint and one end of
each inverter leg. An original control solution of the inverter ensures the power ripple transfer
toward the two decoupling capacitors without affecting the inverter output voltage.
• The simple design makes the proposed solution easy to adapt for single-phase inverters in H-
bridge configuration.
• This PROJECT focuses on the autonomous operation mode of the inverter, detailing its operating
principle and the control analysis.
• The system performances, including the impact of the decoupling circuit on the inverter
efficiency, are assessed by means of experimental results.

Existing System
• The conventional passive solution consists in using a large aluminum electrolytic capacitor on the
inverter dc-link, which is designed to take most of the pulsating power.
• The solution is simple and easy to implement, as it does not require additional control and
hardware.
• However, knowing that the short lifetime of the electrolytic capacitors is the main factor of the
inverters failure, other more reliable solutions are researched.

Proposed System
• Fig.presents the structure of a single-phase H-bridge voltage source converter (VSC), including
two decoupling capacitors (Cd1 and Cd2) connected as in the figure.
• By this arrangement, the pulsating power is intended to be transferred toward the two
decoupling capacitors by controlling the inverter arms in an original manner.
• The proposed solution was first introduced, while this PROJECT continues the study in depth
about the control method and experimental assessments.
• Because the proposed solution does not change the basic operation of the H-bridge structure, it
may be applied to converters operating as inverters, rectifiers, or bidirectional.
• A particular interest is directly toward the systems with RES for micro grids.
• This PROJECT focuses on the inverter autonomous operation mode, but the grid-connected
operation is also feasible.
