The primary requirements for OpenStack based clouds (public, private or hybrid) is that they must be massively scalable and highly available. There are a number of interrelated concepts which make the understanding and implementation of HA complex. The potential for not implementing HA correctly would be disastrous. This session was presented at the OpenStack Meetup in Boston Feb 2014. We discussed interrelated concepts as a basis for implementing HA and examples of HA for MySQL, Rabbit MQ and the OpenStack APIs primarily using Keepalived, VRRP and HAProxy which will reinforce the concepts and show how to connect the dots.

Recent OpenStack releases have focused on improving stability and enhancing the operator experience. This is still the case with Liberty, but there are still new features to consider. Join Sean Cohen and Steve Gordon to review notable features of this new OpenStack release, including: Network quality of service (QoS) support via a new extensible API for dynamically defining per-port and per-network QoS policies. Mark host down API enhancement in support of external high-availability solutions, including pacemaker, providing resilient instances in the event of compute node failure. Enhanced Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) support including dashboard integration, Ipsilon, and OpenID Connect support. As OpenStack matures, more users move from “dipping a toe” to deploying at large scale, with 1000's of nodes. OpenStack networking has long been a limiting factor in scaling beyond a few hundreds of nodes, forcing users to turn to cell splitting, or to complete offloading of the networking to the underlay systems and forfeit the overlay network altogether. Dragonflow is a fully distributed, open source, SDN implementation of Neutron, that handles large scale deployments without splitting to cells. In testing we've conducted, we were able to scale to 4000+ controllers (each controller is typically deployed on a compute node), while maintaining the same performance we had on a small 30 node environment.

The recent years have seen a rapid diffusion of deep learning algorithms as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and as a consequence, an intensification of industrial and academic research focused on optimizing their implementation. Different computing architectures have been explored, and among all of them, FPGAs seem to be a very attractive choice, since they can deliver sustained performance with high power efficiency, as CNNs can be directly mapped onto hardware, and still offer flexibility thanks to their programmability. In this paper, we present an end-to-end framework to implement CNNs using a dataflow acceleration methodology. The resulting spatial accelerator can be scaled in size if enough resources are available and can exploit both intra- and inter- layers parallelism. We integrate the proposed framework with the deep learning engine Caffe, meaning that we are able to generate the accelerator starting from a Caffe model. We also provide cloud integration of such framework, enabling users to synthesize and deploy the accelerator on the Amazon F1 instances.

Il cash flow è la ricostruzione dei flussi monetari (differenza tra tutte le entrate e le uscite monetarie) di una azienda nell’arco del periodo di analisi e rappresenta una misura dell’autofinanziamento aziendale. Può essere calcolato a partire dal conto economico e dai dati di bilancio dell’impresa; l’insieme dei flussi di cassa è importante per stabilire in che misura ed in che maniera possono essere remunerati i centri di costo. Partendo dall’analisi dei bilanci di alcune PMI italiane, cercheremo di analizzare le eventuali criticità emerse nella gestione del proprio cash flow e metteremo in evidenza l’importanza e i vantaggi di un flusso di cassa positivo, identificando quali strumenti utilizzare per creare liquidità, con particolare riferimento al procurement di prodotti ICT.

Le problematiche che sorgono in seguito all’utilizzo dei prodotti e dei servizi dell’IoT sono molteplici. Tra queste, le maggiori sono: a) Asimmetria informativa e mancanza di controllo sui propri dati: la condivisione di dati personali tra produttori dei dispositivi, sviluppatori di sw, provider e analisti, comporta per le persone la difficoltà ad esercitare un adeguato controllo sugli stessi, e, soprattutto, sulle finalità perseguite diverse da quelle associate al dispositivo; b) Consenso informato: estrema difficoltà per l’utilizzatore dei dispositivi IoT di prestare un consapevole e libero consenso al trattamento dei suoi dati personali; c) Profilazione intrusiva: l’elevata quantità di dati personali e sensibili, rende altamente possibile una profilazione sempre più sofisticata delle abitudini degli utenti; d) Sicurezza: le attuali tecnologie IoT non hanno ancora raggiunto un livello di sicurezza adeguato.
