A swift extension of the forearm, snapping the shoulder, elbow and wrist.
3. Rising to the balls of the feet and holding the shooting hand in the follow-through.
Jump Shoot:
1. Release must come off the fingertips just before the peak of the jump.
2. All the momentum you carry upward should be channelled right to the fingertips at the release so you can make the perfecting adjustments.
3. Follow-through well.
Picture of a Player doing jump shoot:
<Tips>
Confidence - A shooter with confidence will be one, who shoots the ball each time quot;
knowingquot;
it will pass perfectly through the basket. However, this should not be confused with taking wild shots from half-court; he/she also has a great shot selection. When shooting, you must have a good mindset.
Concentration- This is how all the great players blank out the crowd and any other distractions and just focus on the game. Great shooters are able to blank out any distraction and still score the basketball. This mostly consists of being relaxed and not getting carried away in the drama of the game.
Defense
Man-to-Man
With this defense, each player is assigned to guarding a particular player on the other team. Each player must try hard to stop the opponent. Although it sounds individual, man-to-man is really a team defense. Every one must do his/her part. If 1 or 2 players don't play good defense, the defense will fail. Although you are assigned to guard one player, you must learn to quot;
helpquot;
your teammates, and learn to quot;
slide throughquot;
and quot;
switchquot;
the player you are guarding with a teammate, if one of you gets picked. We used to call this a quot;
switchingquot;
man-to-man defense.
Technique: Keep the palm of your lead hand facing up. Try to get at the ball from below, not by slapping down it, which results in a foul. Your other hand should be in the passing lane. Slide with your opponent, and try to get him/her to stop the dribble, and then close in and apply pressure.
Pictures of a Player playing man to man defense:
Zone
Basketball zone defense is different from man to man defense in that players guard a part of the floor, or a zone, as opposed to a particular player. Defenders move in their zone depending on where the ball is. Basketball zone defense was created to stop offensive penetration from dribbling and protect against one-on-one moves where the offense might win. There are a variety of zone defenses (2-3, 3-2, 1-2-2, 1-3-1 defenses, etc). In a zone defense, you defend a particular quot;
zonequot;
, or area on the court. You don't stay with a particular person (like in the man-to-man). Any time the ball comes into your area, you guard that person with the ball. The defenders have to learn the rules of each zone and how to quot;
shiftquot;
, or move, with the ball.
Technique:
1. Try to keep the ball outside. Double-team the ball in the paint.
2. Be vocal, talk to each other.
3. Move, adjust your position relative to the movement of the ball.
4. Get your hands up and out, to shrink the passing lanes.
5. When the offense dribble penetrates, quickly close the gap.
6. Get to know your opponent and adjust. Over-protect against the best shooters, or the quot;
hotquot;
shooter, and sag off the guy who never shoots.
7. Trap the corners.
8. Especially if you are ahead, don't gamble or get too zealous about trapping the wing and point guard positions. Keep pressure on the ball, but also protect the paint and force the outside, low-percentage shot.
Pictures of Players Playing Zone Defense:
Bibliography
Adrienne2, By. quot;

I know when I’m struggling getting a solid contact on my float serve, I’ll contact the ball with more of a bent elbow. I feel this gives me a little more of a window for adjusting to the height of the toss to get that solid contact. For example, if I were to try and contact the ball with an extend arm every time I serve, the height of my toss would be more critical to getting a good solid contact.
Picture of a Player Serving:
025400
Should I serve to a “zone” or “area” or should I serve to a player? Players need to learn to serve making passers move, disrupting the opponent's offense. This should be done not by serving zones, but by making players move the way you want them to.
If I serve to a player who should this be? Instead of just hoping your opposition has a hard time passing by serving quot;

, serve to dictate how a passer plays the ball.
Digging:
Be up on your toes and on the balls of your feet, not on your heels.
Be ready to get in a stable position to dig a hard driven ball.
Be ready to move to run down a shot or tip.
Arms are bent and in front of you ready to react to dig a ball with your forearms or to play a ball overhead.
Eyes are focused on the hitter watching for any hint as to what they are going to do.
Cushion hard driven balls. You should try to absorb the hit with your arms to keep the ball on your side of the net. If you can keep the ball on your side, your team has a better chance of winning the rally with your setter setting an attacker. Players are encouraged to stay on their feet when making plays on the ball.
Picture of a Player Serving:
050800
Setting:
Get to the ball
1.
