2. Xeroxing, copying and pasting is very much like learning history from google. The actual event has passed and
have been modified so many times that it is not even unreal because the real one is lost in space. A reference
cannot be made because the start point has dissappeared over the years or applications due to the artificial pre-
sentation or artificial preservance of our lives.
Finding the most convenient has so far been convenient, in the age of capitalism, however, the side-effects of
the convenient can be traced through different experiments, google and multiplication of anything. It has be-
come the job/entertainment/solution/information center for people of every age. Not only convenient but also
multi-purpose & all-in-one, one-click “virtual center” detaches us from our humanly ways of “doings” and
brings about a complete reliance on machinery.
Therefore, our TO-DO list is not on the computer, but a copy of it;
Our memories are now framed and square “zipped” in a “new folder”, -a copy of it which we can multiply a zil-
lion times and send them all over.
As we have more and more copied of everything, we are detaching ourselves from the actual, orginial and the
essence or the start point. In order to illustrate my concept, I scanned my body parts and belongings over and
over again. In order to reillustrate my concept, I juxtaposed my personal experience with a historical event with
the way it was described in text in google. The more scanned I was, the more expression lines were lost. I have
lost my 3d appearence, I became pixelated and then I found myself on paper. There is not a scanner that I could
scan my entire body with, therefore I became detached. Wikipedia article couldnt cover every event, therefore,
it has lost the essence of the actual. The text is completely detached from what I experienced as a person or the
timeframe of the event. The transferring and processing of anything, therefore, is lossy and critical in terms of
examining not only the beginning but also the end. In order to find the end point, we need to find the start point.
Tracing backwards can only be possible through such experiments.

Based on google image search, the first image in response to typing one phoenician character is re-
placed with the existing Phoenician sign.
Based on Ferdinand De Sussure’s Langue and Parole, rules and conventions of language is contra-
dicted with use of the language by google. Such duality suggests the superiority of theory over reality,
superior over subordinate while deconstructing the Langue. As google displays the images from the
most popular to the least, collection of this data then turns Google into a signifier.

Cognitive Interpretation_ Visualization Process

Making a sense of the world around us is what possibly initiated pictographs, signs (symbols) and
then finally the alphabet. The need to figure something out is the first step and then comes the cogni-
tive process/interpretation of what we see around us. How we perceive it is the heart of this research,
how does technology help with the cognitive process is the heart of my interest. Particularly, how
GOOGLE definitions and image search interact with the “perceiving” or “understanding” process. Mil-
lions of other questions arise, such as the difference between learning through listening and learning
through internet search. Could google images be defined as signs or meaning? Visualization is done
by google or partially taken over?
FINDINGS
We interpret things as signs largely unconsciously by relating them to familiar systems of conven-
tions. It is this meaningful use of signs which is at the heart of the concerns of semiotics.

The phrase is “eft newt” and initially I do not know the meaning.
Listened explanation from a professional was;
” Secondary metamorphic stage for salamanders and newts. The terrestrial form of either newts or
salamanders triggered by reproductive and environmental changes. It is the roughening of the animal
skin. Color, pattern and texture changes. “
My visualization as I listened was a lizard with very dry skin, dehydrated and brown. Almost dead.

Words from my classmate were :

I ended up choosing “man vs machine” which seems to gather it all together in terms of my research
as well as the political approach to it. Some of my notes include;

Man is thought, machine is production.
Man is process, machine is execution.
Man visualizes, machines captures.
Google is machine.
Immediately, Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times came to my mind and I started incorporating current
technological devices that would parallel to man vs machine as well as Charlie Chaplin. I ended up
using a bunch of images, some of which are transparent and the transparency here represents out
desire to get to the reality. However as Bauderellaire also implies, we are beyond reality and therefore
even the representation doesnt exist.

After 1905, artists like Picasso, Juan Gris etc.. claimed concept exists before execution. Concept de-
termines the object, give it a meaning etc..
The chair is perfect example, however, the question of which is real is irrelevant to my project. The
chair doesn’t exist in nature, the idea of a chair exists and therefore the chair itself exists.
Renessaince period is important. Baroqu and Romanticism signified emotions. Then comes symbol-
ism expressionism and then finalized by cubism. What is finalized is the mechanical conceptions and
then comes the abstract, playing with words, thoughts which is postmodern.
Cubism: An object’s essence, what a person pushes upon that object not what its made out of. A
painting is actually 2D but the 3D appearance is the imitation of nature/reality. A designer is in the
abstract in the process BUT the execution is mechanical. (Color, shape etc is given)
Picasso’s figures; normally we wouldn’t see the other eye but EVEN IF WE DONT SEE IT, IT EXISTS
STILL! When the eye doesn’t see, does it not exist? However I think about something, thats how it ex-
ists. It exists in thought first. Philosophical conception vs mechanical conception.
Question every weak aspect;
Make it more minimal and specific YET deep.
Go more into visualization process and experiment with others.
Unless the theory is provided, could something be visualized or even drawn by someone? Construc-
tion??
Conclude it based on the specific field you aim. Limit it.

FROZEN EMBRYOS
What happens to the embryos that couples don’t wish to use in fertilization centers? why are they
considered in human status by conservatives whereas we eat eggs everyday>? Millions of chicken
eggs are all fertilized already, after warmth it turns into baby chickens, what kind of morality is that if
the embryo is considered to have moral status? Is it human centered universe? Every existence have
a part in ecology, yet, humans assume to be the superior existence.
Is the universe created for human beings exclusively or do just have higher moral status?
How does the human centered universe differ from Hitler? Designer babies are utopic.

FAST VARIES AS BEGINNING POINT APPROACHES THE END
The beginning and the end points get closer to each other as acceleration occurs. How many frames
have been erased by this acceleration? (google is an acceleration, why?)
Accelaration , rushing towards the end and then missing the beginning.
If the end doesn’t exist, where are we heading? Fictional space, fictional route and a fictional catas-
trophe?
Fast isn’t always good, I suppose? Hows fast in Mesopotamia, as opposed to NYC?
Present in action but missing in time.
We are all rushing, NYC (people, buses, trains) The only thing thats not rushing are the birds, pup-
pies, flies. Even the water is rushing through the accelerated pipes underground. I’m rushing to ex-
ecute this. Rushing is no good.

Moved by “Illusion of The End”!!!
Although the book has been challenging in terms of “looking for what I need”, I come to realize, it is
very poetic and engaging.
Some parts of the book that I really enjoyed and cannot stop reading over and over again are;
WE SHALL NEVER KNOW WHAT EVERYTHING WAS BEFORE DISAPPEARING INTO THE FUL-
FILLMENT OF ITS MODEL.
…RITUAL SOCIETIES WHERE THE END OF EVERYTHING IS IN ITS BEGINNING AND CEREMO-
NY RETRACES THE PERFECTION OF THAT ORIGINAL EVENT.
…PRODUCTION OF A LINEAR DEFERRED TIME —> PURELY ARTIFICIAL PROCESS.
… DAY OF RECKONING + EVENTS + FINAL GOAL = FICTITIOUS.
Brilliant stuff! Now I gotta apply this excitement to my project.

EXECUTION THINKING
As I’m on the bus, I think I decided to give people the essence of the artificial and accelerating, not
through text, poetry which they will have to process cognitively. The process should be short, striking
and also dissappointing. Baudrillard is right, the essence of everything is lost with its original.
That being said, my ideas are open to video, some type of swing or etc which adults can play with .
Video needs cognitive process too, so maybe not.
How about something totally different?
