14. 5C Framework
Company: Olympic Games. First held in 1896 in Athens, Greece. Includes
more than 10k make and female athletes from over 200 nations competing in
as many as 28 sports over 17 days. IOC is the governing body of the Games.
OCOG is the host city’s organizing committee (London OCOG here). 2012
Olympic to be held in the UK.
Consumers: Spectators (roughly 30% of total are expected to be Londoners,
25% residents of UK, 20% rest of Europeans and the rest would be people
from the rest of the world), journalists and media personnel, Olympic and
political dignitaries.
Collaborators: Government of the host nation (UK here), domestic and
international sponsors, broadcast partners, media and licensees.
Competitors: Major sports events scheduled to fall somewhere around the
Olympics schedule
Context: The ticketing head, Paul Williamson, had to set the prices of the
tickets of the London Olympic Games, ensuring a minimum revenue of $650
million, at the same time ensuring maximum attendance, that too with the right
kind of audience. He also had to keep in mind that the event would be
marketed as “Everybody’s Games” and hence the tickets prices should reflect
the same message.
