Audit Scotland: case study of a Simple programme
1. Case Study: Audit Scotland
Background:
Audit Scotland are a medium sized company
with 250 employees spread across Scotland.
They were looking for a way to actively engage
their employees in their ambitious carbon
management plan.
They used the theme of New Year’s Resolutions
to encourage staff to pledge to do simple actions.
What we did:
We set up a ‘Simple’ campaign where staff chose
from a list of actions and made their pledges.
Carbon savings from each action were
immediately measured and their pledges shared
publicly on the page.
Throughout the month of January, employees
pledged to do actions like running into work,
driving smarter or using less plastic.
2. The
Results
Through January, 131 pledges were made by 56 employees – that’s 22% of their workforce. 68%
of actions were confirmed to have been successfully completed over the two months. Here’s
some of what they achieved together:
3½ chocolate
Everests
worth of stairs climbed by
people doing Step Up
348 bars
225
not eaten by people doing Do Diet
days
is how long people doing Lights Off
switched their lights off for, together.
3. The
Results
Together, their actions led to a confirmed saving of 1,976 kgCO2. 60% of successful Doers plan
to continue their new habits in the long term, resulting in 9 tCO2 being saved per year.
That’s the same amount of carbon as emitted by 21 flights from Glasgow to New York.
4. What people were saying
What did people sa
y?
It is a hard pledge to put into action, especially
when either my husband or I are away with
work. But I'm really pleased in how we have
done I have learnt a lot about the best way of
using up the leftovers.
Anon, Eat Up
It was liberating to be able to give up Candy
Crush finally.
Adeeming – Game Off
Turning into my dad - shouting
‘”switch that light off’” all the time!!!
Cat Flint, Lights Off
I feel both the physical and mental
benefit of doing my bit.
