 City tourism is a tourism which occurs within a
city’s administrative area
 Urban tourism is a tourism which occurs in
urban areas, could be within a city’s
administrative area if the area is totally
urbanized, within a city and beyond that
has characteristic of urban (urban fringe),
or a part of city that has an urban life that
is visited for tourism (urban precinct)

 City tourism: tourist enjoy all
resources within the city area. It could
reflecting an urban or non urban
characteristics as long as located in the
city.
 Urban tourism: tourist enjoy only in an
area that has a characteristics of urban.
It could be a part of a city that is visited
mostly by visitors (urban precinct).
Why People are Visiting a City?
 City is a geographical area with a high number of population and will attract
people to come for VFR – visiting friends and relatives.
 City is an area where is visited first by people who come to a country for
staying or transiting to other cities or villages.
 City is a center of public and business administration.
 City has a unique culture caused by mix culture from difference nations,
ethnics, etc.

 Residents need facilities for their leisure time, called recreation.
 A city needs income for developing its infrastructure, recreation facilities
etc., which is earned from tourism sectors.
 Giving better value of the facilities.
 It can create a better image for the city.
 Creating creativity caused by people’s interactions.
City Is a Tourist Destination: What is a Tourist Destination?
 It is a geographical area where is visited for reasons of leisure and other
tourism activities purposes.
 It is a place “…where tourist intends their time away from home” (Jafari, 2000)
 “An amalgam of products and services available in one location that can draw
visitor from beyond its spatial confines” (Pearce, 1992).
 “Physical and administrative boundaries defining its management and images
and perceptions defining its market competitiveness” (UNWTO. 2002)
 It is a geographic area where is assigned by market
perception, it is a borderless.
