3. 2
Dear SDMS Members,
2015 was a very exciting year for the SDMS. First, in the
spring, we undertook our strategic planning to ensure
that the SDMS can continue to serve the needs of the
sonography community. The SDMS is dedicated to being
your best career resource and our updated strategic plan will
guide us over the next three years as we realize this goal.
Secondly, in September we launched a completely
redesigned, reorganized, and rebranded SDMS website. The website acts as both the public face of the
SDMS and a central hub where our members can easily access their member benefits, earn CME credits,
access their SDMS CME tracker, and update their profile 24/7. If you haven’t explored the new website,
we encourage you to take a couple of minutes to set up your member account so that you can start
utilizing all of your SDMS member benefits.
Thirdly, in 2015, the SDMS introduced micro-volunteer opportunities. The SDMS counts on the
knowledge and expertise of our members to accomplish our mission and move the profession forward.
The SDMS micro-volunteer opportunities recognize the reality of today’s hectic lives while enabling you
to contribute to the sonography community.
Other highlights of the SDMS’ 2015 accomplishments include:
• Right-sized staff to meet the growing needs of the association
• Streamlined processes and procedures across the organization to better utilize resources
• Refreshed the look and feel of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography
• Added even more On-Demand Webinars increasing the number of SDMS CME credits offered free
of charge to our members
• Added a Pediataric Sonography book to the SDMS Registry Review Series
• Became a sponsor of the Committee on Accreditation for Advanced Cardiovascular Sonography
• Finalized the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
2016 holds even more changes and opportunities for the SDMS and you can read about them in the
following pages. We are excited about the future of sonography and look forward to working with you.
Best wishes for 2016,
