Evaluation of our recipe cards-
I used my design skills by using
Photoshop. I used this software to
design our recipe cards, I could apply my
design skills to appeal to our audience
by using interesting fonts that looked
fun and eye catching to attract the
audience to our cards. I also used a
simple font for the main listing of the
recipe, I chose these specific fonts as I
wanted the cards to look clean, simple
and easy to read as they were aimed at
a certain audience, a group of people
who were either beginning to learn how
to cook, such as students or at people
with hectic or busy lifestyles that
wanted quick easy meals.
Fonts
Layout I designed the layout of the cards on
Photoshop, making it my main aim that it
looked clear and well spaced out. I tried to
make the cards look clean and structured
with minimal clutter. I kept the photo’s
very uniform and in straight lines with
borders, as well as keeping important
information such as cooking, prep and
serving size also in certain places, I made
sure every card was consistently the same
regarding the photo’s, layout of the text
and layout of the design such as the coffee
stains and shapes. The layout is very
organised however it is also slightly quirky
because of the different shape borders
and styles of the shapes.
Colour
Scheme
We designed the colour scheme together,
as we both agreed that, after looking at the
vegsoc website that the website colours
would work well on the cards, as they
would make a clear link back to the website
and the logo of the vegetarian society. The
colours of the logo were also clean and
simple and worked well on the white
background, similarly to the website we
chose to use and off white colour for the
background of the cards to make them
more interesting and less bright. The
pictures as they are all very colourful
brighten up our colour scheme and give it
more variety.
Recipe
Selection
The selection of recipe cards we used link back to
our audience, we chose them purely because we
wanted to incorporate simple dishes but still have
variety for people, so they would appeal to a
broader audience. We also chose some dishes
from different continents around the world such
as the salads and pasta styles. All our recipes are
completely vegetarian and all vary, we included a
variety of food genres from snacks such as the
peppers which could also be used as a side dish
and the mozzarella and tomato ciabatta to mains
such as tomato and basil pasta and rice and bean
enchiladas as well as lunch time options such as
vegetarian club and the South western style
salad.
Our recipes were all sourced from
www.bbcgoodfood.com
Copy and Images that demonstrate this;
Our images are
line up straight
and are all
symmetrical and
consistent on
each slide.
The recipe is
also consistent
on each slide as
it always
consists of 3
steps and is
always evenly
spaced, because
I wanted the
layout to look
clean and
simple.
I used shapes such as coffee stains, that I feel work well.
However if I was to redesign these recipe cards I would
change the consistency of where the stains have been placed
to make it look more realistic and less uniform.
I also used an off
white background so
the white wasn’t too
harsh and bright.
I used the vegetarian logo on both sides of the
recipe card, which worked well as it helped tie
in the colour scheme.
I added quirky
touches such as
the shapes
used as borders
around the title
of the food, as
well as the
helpful tip box,
or even facts
including
alliteration to
make the front
of the recipe
card more
interesting to
read and fun.
I also included the
prep, cook and
serving amount in a
different colour to
stand out.
