• Codes and conventions of current affairs magazine. For a magazine to be a magazine there needs to be a:
Masthead- this allows for the consumer to clearly identify the brand of the magazine. This would allow it to
become recognizable to the consumer. Tagline- this is to show what the magazine is about or who it is aimed
at. Coverlines- this gives the reader/consumer an idea of what the magazine will be about and what is going to
be in it. Cover model- this is usually a celebrity or someone to do with the thing the magazine is
promoting/talking about. Colour scheme- depending on the target audience of the magazine and the logo the
colour scheme will change. For instance, if they are targeting a younger demographic then they would do
brighter colours like pink and blue. Barcode- the barcode is to allow for the consumer to buy the magazine.
This also needs to be placed in the same position on the magazine in every issue. Central image- a picture of a
person or anything the magazine is talking about allows the magazine to grab their target audience and allows
people to clearly see what the magazine is talking about. Cover models-this also shows what the magazine is
talking about by the use of their clothes and the models look like. Edition- magazines to have their edition
numbers so that the consumer knows they are up to date
• Target audience: the primary target audience will be between the ages of 30 to 40 who live-in English-
speaking countries. Their social status will be the middle class with occupations such as intermediate
managerial, administrative, or professional. The primary psychographic audience will be mainstreamers and
aspirers however it may also suitable for explores/individualists who will be the secondary target audience.
The political ideology of the magazine will be lean left. The magazine will use codes and conventions such as
appealing to their audience’s political stances, psychology and using conventions in text and images to make
the magazine cover recognizable and unique.

subheading will also be present which indicate the importance of each story and all the contents will
be in bold to make them more visible

6. • Magazine proposal
• I will be creating a magazine for my media studies coursework
• Magazine Title: After Brainstorming and researching I have decided to name my magazine “The Weekly Ataraxia”
• Genre: The genre of my magazine will be current affairs and the publishing company will be Dennis
• Target Audience: The primary target audience for my magazine will be adults from the age of 30-50 who live-in English-Speaking Native countries with
a political ideology of lean left. Their social status will be of middle class with occupations such as intermediate managerial, administrative, or
professional. In terms of the psychographic model, the primary target audience will consist of mainstreams. However, the secondary target will also be
of the same age and social status, but they will be residing in countries which speak English as a second language, and they could be aspirers as well
as mainstreamers.
• Main Cover Line: The main cover line of my magazine will talk about the impact of the coronavirus epidemic internationally and it will be present
alongside a small description which will be underneath it.
• House Style:
• Fonts for Masthead: The font I will use for the Masthead is the Bubble Gum Font in Sans Serif so that it is clearly visible for the readers as Sans Serif
fonts really stand out in large titles and to also make it the “center of attention” to highlight its importance.
• Fonts for Cover Lines/headlines: As for the Cover Lines/ the headlines I will be using a font called Sunday Morning. The nature of the font makes it
seem less important as compared to the Bubble Gum Font because of which I decided to use this font for all the Cover lines and headlines.
Furthermore, I will also be using the Sans Serif font here because the cover lines/ headlines are still large when compared to the body text
• Fonts for the Body texts: for the body texts, I will be using a font called Magic Dreams as it is a simple yet unique font which can be read quite feasibly.
The body text will however be in the serif font as serif font types are easily readable at small body copy sizes.
7. • Layout for magazine: I will be using 5 columns. The most important story will be placed on the page in one
wide column and the other columns will be used for less important stories. Hence, Combining the column’s
will allow me infinite possibilities and variations in the layout which I will use to my advantage to create
dynamic layouts.
• Additional cover lines: In the additional cover lines I will be covering additional contents such as all the other
worldwide health concerns, technological advancements and all the social media related global issues and
events.
• Contents page: my magazine, “the Weekly Ataraxia” will primarily cover 5 sections which include UK, US,
World, Politics, health, and technology
• Additional elements: The additional elements include in my magazine will be a skyline
• The date, the price of the magazine as well as a barcode will be included at the bottom. The price of my
magazine will be 7 pounds and it will be a weekly magazine
