Nepal has made progress on REDD+ through developing an Emission Reductions Program Document and Forest Investment Program. However, gaps remain around fully endorsing the national REDD+ strategy, integrating adaptation into forestry, and ensuring sub-national coverage of REDD+ programs. REDD+ in Nepal supports several Sustainable Development Goals and Nationally Determined Contribution targets through community forestry management, sustainable forest management activities, and emission reduction programs. Improving benefit sharing mechanisms, private sector engagement, and monitoring protocols can help Nepal further advance REDD+ and its linkages to climate and development goals.
