4. McKinsey Quarterly 1998/3:
Better talent is worth fighting for.
What we found should be a call to arms for
corporate America. Companies are about to be
engaged in a war for senior executive talent that
will remain a defining characteristic of their
competitive landscape for decades to come. Yet
most are ill prepared, and even the best are
vulnerable.
5. “A war once conducted as a sequence of set piece recruiting
battles is transforming itself into an endless series of skirmishes as
companies find their best people, and in particular their future
senior executives, under constant attack.”

14. Krapte op arbeidsmarkt is structureel geworden
Kwantitatieve oorzaken:
28. “The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting”
29. “The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting”
“The art of war is of vital importance. It’s a matter of life & death,
a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it’s a subject of inquiry
which can on no account be neglected”
“Victory usually goes to the army who has better trained officers
and men”
35. Regel 6: Winnende bedrijven houden continu hun ogen open. Talent komt niet alleen
voorbij als er een concrete vacature is.
“It is only the enlightened ruler and the wise general who will use
the highest intelligence of the army for purposes of spying, and
thereby they achieve great results.
36. De 3 “Value Disciplines”
Tenslotte: een warm pleidooi voor meer warmte
Customer intimacy maakt een enorm verschil
37. Operational Excellence:
Operations are standarized, simplified, tightly controlled, and centrally planned, leaving few decisions to the
discretion of rank-and-file employees. A culture that abominates waste and rewards efficiency. Especially, efficiency
is a key word in operational excellent companies. Variety kills efficiency because it burdens the business with cost.
Customer Intimacy:
Customer intimate companies don’t deliver what the market wants, but what a specific customer wants. It
continually tailors its products and services to the customer in a way that it can offer the ‘best total solution’. It
features: 1. An obsession with the core processes of solution development, results management and relationship
management. 2. A business structure that delegates decision-making to employees who are close to the customer.
