Handbook For Employers
• 56 page instruction manual for completing the
Form I-9 available at www.dhs.gov
• Page 16 – most common wrongfully interpreted
instruction is Retention of Form I-9
Remember, Forms I-9 must be stored for 3 years
after the date you hire an employee, or 1 year after
the date you or the employee terminates
employment, whichever is later.
• A joint agreement between government
and business to restore the integrity of the
U.S. immigration system by strengthening
hiring practices

• Focus on reducing the size of illegal
workforce, sharing best practices, self-
policing.

(Social Security Number Verification Service)
• Establish a channel for employees to report
activity related to the employment of illegal aliens
• Establish I-9 auditing procedures (internal or

                FORM I-9 CORRECTION
During a Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) audit conducted December 21,
2008 through January 6, 2009, by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS),
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of Investigations (OI) and as part
of the ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers (IMAGE)
application process for TECO Energy, Inc., this employees Form I-9 required
correction.
The Form I-9 attached hereto and completed for

Handbook For Employers • 56 page instruction manual for completing the Form I-9 available at www.dhs.gov • Page 16 – most common wrongfully interpreted instruction is Retention of Form I-9 Remember, Forms I-9 must be stored for 3 years after the date you hire an employee, or 1 year after the date you or the employee terminates employment, whichever is later.
  • 5. • A joint agreement between government and business to restore the integrity of the U.S. immigration system by strengthening hiring practices • Focus on reducing the size of illegal workforce, sharing best practices, self- policing.
