• Positive: Subject + verb 1 (present form)
• I like apple.
• She teaches mathematics.
• Negative: Subject + do /does + not + verb 1
• I don't like apple.
• She doesn't teach mathematics.
• Question: Do / Does+ subject + verb?
• Do I like apple?
• Does she teach mathematics?
3. USAGE
• We use present simple to talk about habits/routines,
facts/general truths, permanent situations, and
states of being.

4. USAGE (1): a habit or routine
• Habits refer to things we regularly do in everyday life.
Routines are activities we repeatedly or frequently
do. We usually use it with adverbs of frequency (e.g.
always, usually, sometimes, rarely...), too.
• He goes to school every day. (Habit)
• They clean their car two times a week. (Routine)
5. USAGE (2): a fact or general truth
• Facts are things which are always true. Similarly,
things which may also be true but in general are
called general truths.
• The water boils at 100 degree Celsius. (Fact)
• Rain gives water to life. (General truth)
6. USAGE (3): a permanent or long-term situation
• The situations may happen permanently or take
place for a long period of time;
• They live in the Kampong Thom.
• He works for a local NGO.
7. USAGE (4): a state of being
• States of being are conditions or ways which things
exist. To express states, we use present simple with
state verbs; these verbs show condition, feeling,
emotion, thoughts, measurement, possession, etc.
• My friend owns an art gallery in Siem Reap.
• That bicycle belongs to Thida.
