1. A MATTER OF FAITH
1 Peter 3:13-16
Many of us have an
inherited religion.
What do we mean by
an inherited religion?
A simple explanation
of an inherited
religion.
2. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE?
Do you have an inherited
religion?
Is one religion as good
as another?
What if you moved some
place where there was
no Church of Christ?
3. Our Text Admonishes Us to Be
Prepared to Tell Others…
What is involved in becoming and remaining
a Christian?
A. Faith (Hebrews 11:1 & 6) “Faith is the
assurance of things hoped for, the con-
viction of things not seen. And without
faith it is impossible to please Him, for he
who comes to God must believe that He
is, and that He is a rewarder of those who
seek Him.”
4. B. Confession of Christ (Matt. 10:32-33)
“Everyone therefore who shall confess Me
before men, I will also confess him before
My Father who is in heaven. But whoever
shall deny Me before men, I will also deny
him before My Father who is in heaven.”
C. Repentance (Luke 24:46-47) “And He
said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the
Christ should suffer and rise again from
the dead the third day; and that repent-
ance for forgiveness of sins should be
proclaimed to all the nations, beginning in
Jerusalem.’”
5. D. Baptism (Acts 2:38) “And Peter said to
them, ‘Repent, and be baptized in the
name of the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins; and you shall
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”
(Gal.3:26-27) “For you are all sons of God
through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you
who were baptized into Christ have
clothed yourself with Christ.”
6. E. Live a faithful life until death (Rev.
14:13) “And I heard a voice from heaven,
saying, ‘Write, Blessed are the dead who
die in the Lord from now on!’ ‘Yes’ says
the Spirit, ‘that they may rest from their
labors, for their deeds follow with them.’”
Faithful service involves many things:
Being a servant (John 14:15) “If you love
Me, you will keep my commandments.”
7. Attendance of worship services (Heb.
10:24-25) “and let us consider how to
stimulate one another to love and good
deeds, not forsaking our own assembling
together, as is the habit of some, but
encouraging one another; and all the
more, as you see the day drawing near.”
8. Giving as prospered (1 Cor. 16:1-2) “Now
concerning the collection for the saints, as
I directed the churches of Galatia, so do
you also. On the first day of the week let
each one of you put aside and save, as he
may prosper, that no collections be made
when I come.”
9. Helping others (Gal. 6:10) “So then while
we have opportunity, let us do good to all
men, and especially to those who are of
the household of the faith.”
Loving fellow Christians (1 John 4:7-11)
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love
is of God; and everyone who loves is born
of God and knows God. The one who
does not love does not know God, for God
is love.
10. By this the love of God was manifested in
us, that God has sent His only begotten
Son into the world so that we might live
through Him. In this is love, not that we
loved God, but that He loved us and sent
His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought
to love one another.”
11. Our Christian Lives Are One of the
best ways to teach others.
Matt. 5:14-16 “You are the light of the
world. A city set on a hill cannot be
hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it
under a basket, but on a lampstand; and it
gives light to all who are in the house. Let
your light so shine before men in such a
way that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
