2. The scope of the functions of the Principal of School of Nursing will vary
according to the structure of organization, but there are certain essential functions
in relation to the school for which she wiII be responsible in any structure. These
functions include:
1. General administration of a School of Nursing.
2. General administration and overall supervision of teaching programmes.
3. Supervision of students welfare, health and security services.
4. Supervision and guidance of teaching staff including organisation of in-service
education of staff.
5. Responsibility for organizing workload of staff including teaching assignments.
3. 6. Guidance and counselling of students.
7. Administrative arrangements for students' clinical experience and teaching
in hospital and public health field.
8. Recruitment of staff and admission of students.
9. Responsibility for conduct of examinations.
10. Supervision of living conditions of students in hostel.
11. Maintenance of permanent school records.
12. Preparation of reports (School reports, progress reports).
13. Review and revision of policies, rules, regulations, philosophy of the school.
14. Performing public relations duties for the school.

16. Preparation of budgetary proposals.
17. Supervision of hostel and office staff.
18. Participation in the school's committee work.
19. Participation in professional activities.

5. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF VICE PRINCIPAL
Responsible for planning and implementation of teaching programme.
1. Teaching subjects in the Curriculum.
2. Over-all supervision of clinical teaching and implementation of the practical
component in hospital / community settings in real life situation.
3. Assisting in the administration of the School of Nursing.
4. Supervision and guidance of junior teaching staff including in-service
education of teachers.
5. Supervision of student's health, welfare and security.
6. Assisting in the selection of students and admission procedure.
7. Conducting or assisting in examinations, tests (sessionals and terminals).
6. 8. Supervision of living conditions of students in the hostel.
9. Preparation of reports on student's progress.
10.Assisting in maintenance of school records.
11.Participation in student guidance activities.
12.Guiding students' extra-curricular programmes.
13.Assisting the Principal in the procurement of school supplies and equipments.
14.Assisting in the Library.
15.Planning, implementation and evaluation of specific courses.
16.Officiating as Principal in his / her absence.
7. FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF NURSING TUTOR
1. Teaching Nursing subjects.
2. Teaching and Supervision of students in Clinical field.
3. Arrangement for external lecturers.
4. Assists in planning and implementation of specific course.
5. Participation in clinical teaching.
6. Participation in school's committee work.
7. Conducting tests (theory and practical).
8. Helping students in extra curricular activities.
9. Guidance and counselling of students
8. 10.Maintenance of class room and laboratory equipment, supplies and teaching
aids.
11.Evaluating students' assignments and progress
12.Preparing teaching materials under guidance of senior teachers.
13.Supervision and guidance of patient care activities carried out by students.
14.Maintaining records related to clinical experience and teaching
15.Any other duty assigned from time to time.
9. These functions as listed above are sufficient to require the full time
attention of the teaching staff of the school. This is especially so when they are
few in number, and they should not be expected to provide service in the
hospital either as a regular feature or on relief duty. It is be Principal prepares an
individual job description for each staff in line with the above and hand over a
copy on appointment or during orientation.
