14. UK Gift Aid: For the uninitiated…
Good news! Ask eligible UK donors
to claim Gift Aid on top of their
donation.
This means donors can claim 25%
on top of their donation – which
goes to you!
Reclaiming Gift Aid from the UK
Government – GlobalGiving UK
does this for you - ensuring this
“tax bonus” goes to your project.
(Note: there is no match on Gift Aid)
16. Make a Plan –
Focus on Who to Target
16
• Regular donors – ask them to help specifically
on a Bonus Day to get to the Bonus Award
and/or raise a larger amount of funds for a
specific project.
• Lapsed donors – opportunity for them to rejoin
your donor base.
• Board of Directors members – Ask them to give,
but also to be ambassadors
• Friends, Neighbors, Colleagues
• Write template messages for each group that
they can then share with their networks, friends,
and colleagues
• Don’t hesitate to send updates throughout the
day, letting donors know where you are in
relation to your goal, and how they can help
contribute to get you over your goal

19
• Set a fundraising goal
• Use multiple platforms
• Use succinct and compelling
messaging to highlight why Bonus Day
is important
• Stress the urgency of giving now, why
your donors matter, and why you need
them to participate to raise this bonus
money
• Be consistent, but be different!
• Show local efforts
• Time messages – 1 month out, 1 week
out, day before, during campaign

21. Suggestions for
Donor Communications
Very few people read the T&Cs – help donors
by highlighting the important parts.
Remember all donations are final. This is
important to communicate so they do not
have unrealistic expectations if they call and
ask for refunds.
Remember that most donors act quickly, not carefully.
