Director of Coach Development
BetterUp is looking for a Director of Coach Development to join our team to design and build
scalable coach learning programs. We are creating a new category, and we need a leader to
ensure our coaches are equipped to take on the challenge.
We are a team that deeply enjoys and respects the profession of coaching, and is totally
committed to bringing the benefits of coaching to as many people as possible. We aim to
impress ourselves as we work to convey important messages in the most effective manner
possible. As a team, we love to practice imagination as we look for ways to improve, which also
necessitates realistic project scoping and prioritization. We also strive to continually improve
collaboration with our internal partners (ie. engineering, coach operations) and amongst
ourselves. While our immediate “customer” is our coaches, we aim to support the needs of
and impress our organizational partners, and ultimately, we only view our work as successful
if our members benefit from it. And finally, we take our work very seriously, while trying not to
do the same with ourselves.

As the Director of Coach Development

● Define a clear and compelling strategy for Coach Development, ensuring its success from strategy to execution
● Hire, motivate, and develop a world-class team focused on improving the effectiveness of BetterUp’s coach network
● Drive coach mastery of the core skills of a BetterUp Coach through various programs and interventions
● Create and deploy instructional resources to support BetterUp Coaches’ on-going learning and development
● Create and deliver assessments that ensure that coaches are competent in the core skills of a BetterUp Coach and
have pathways for ongoing development
● Create learning communities and programs to facilitate and incentivize the practice of core skills, including
peer-to-peer practice and mentor-coach practice
● Support BetterUp Coaches by partnering to triage escalations related to skill development and issues related to
professional practice
● Provide structured data around coaching effectiveness that can be fed into the overarching quality framework built by
the Coach Operational Quality team
