A note from Stevie & Georgie
May already? How did that happen?
As ever, we are busy with new clients, new members of
staff and our ongoing journey to continually improve our
business and provide members of our team with
opportunities to learn and grow.
One very welcome addition to our team is Lisa, who is
responsible for the day to day running of our accounts
and has already contributed to the lack of stress in
Stevie's life! Welcome aboard Lisa -‐ see over page.
Dementia is probably a key word this month, and with
25 Dementia Friends in the team already, we are
focussed on supporting Dementia Awareness week with
a number of coffee mornings and information sharing
workshops. Find out more about what is happening in
your area over the page.
As ever, please keep an eye out for older people nearby
who may need help with shopping, or putting the bins
out. For many older people living alone, small gestures
can make all the difference.
Warmest wishes,
Stevie & Georgie
Daylight can help your bones
Did you know that if you spend twenty minutes
outdoors in daylight every day between April and
October your body takes in sufficient vitamin D to
sustain it for the whole year?
Vitamin D is necessary to absorb calcium and form
healthy bones and the majority of it is made in our
bodies by absorption of sunlight. However, there has
been a lot of confusion over what levels of sunlight
qualify as 'optimal' or 'sufficient' because of the risk
of skin cancer associated with too much sun.
Vitamin D supplements and specific foods can help to
maintain sufficient levels of vitamin D, particularly in
people at risk of deficiency. However, for most
people the benefits and risks of taking vitamin D are
unclear.
It is important to consult your GP before taking any
supplements.
Would you like to join our team?
We are looking to recruit new members to our team to
help us support older people in Rutland.
Our services include assistance with shopping,
preparation of meals, laundry, ironing, appointments
and errands. Most importantly, we provide
companionship to those who may live a long way
from their family and feel isolated.
If you are reliable, trustworthy and caring and
genuinely enjoy working with people, specifically
older people, we offer flexible contracts, from 5-‐35
hours a week, excellent rates of pay, training and
support.
If you are interested in providing a much needed
service in your local area, call Georgie Rockman on
01572 722590 for an informal chat.
Applicants must provide references, proof of ID and
be willing to undergo a DBS check.
2. Dementia Awareness Week 17 -‐ 23 May
In the UK, there are 850,000 people with dementia and an estimated
400,000 living with the condition, but not aware of it. Estimates
predict that the number of dementia sufferers is set to rise to 1 million
by 2025.
Dementia Awareness Week is supported by the Alzheimer's Society, a
UK charity which undertakes research into the condition and provides
support for those affected by dementia to better enable them to live
well with the condition.
To support Dementia Week, Home Straight will be holding coffee
mornings to raise funds and running events to provide information on
dementia.

Going the 'extra mile'
Each month we reward a member of our team for going
beyond their specified duties and doing the 'extra mile'.
As always, it is very hard to single out just one person,
because members of our team regularly go beyond what
is expected of them and we would like to extend a HUGE
thank you to everyone.
March -‐ Denise Cooper, for the extra time she has given
to support one of our clients who is living with dementia
and being determined to learn more about the disease.
Denise is a Dementia Friend.
April -‐ Belle Toghill, for receiving consistently good
feedback from our clients for being thorough, efficient
and always cheerful.
May -‐ Felicity Agnew, for her work with an elderly client
Lisa Mulvey has recently taken up
responsibility for all things numerical.
Lisa originally worked for us providing
home help to some of our older clients,
but we found out this wasn't the only
skill she had.
Lisa's background in accountancy means
that she will be able to provide the
back-‐room support we need to enable
us to concentrate on our most
important assets -‐ our clients and our
people.
If you have any account queries please
contact Lisa by email lisa@home-‐

We love The Caring Company
Home Straight works very closely with The Caring Company, which is run by Carole
Dawson and offers a range of domiciliary services, including personal, dementia,
palliative and end of life care.
We have a number of clients in common who benefit from a unified approach, which
makes it much easier for families to relax in the knowledge that Home Straight and The
Caring Company work very closely to ensure that services are coordinated.
Carole said, "Working in partnership with Home Straight enables us to provide Clients
with a comprehensive package of care that is tailored to meet their individual needs."
in Langham where she recognised that extra help was
required and sensitively and respectfully organised it.
We received this from the client's family.
"Thank you so much for stepping in at such short
notice. I think you, your team and whole service are
amazing. My friends are quite stunned when I tell
them what you offer and
the care in which
you approach your
clients and their needs."
Please call Georgie on
01572 722590 if you
think one of our team
has gone the extra mile
for you, or your loved one.
