This document discusses social media and its role in citizen and community engagement. It states that the session will be interactive and questions are encouraged. It then discusses what social media is, common social media platforms, and definitions of citizen engagement. Several ways social media can support engagement through information dissemination, discussion, consultation and transparency are listed. Different types of online user behaviors are outlined. It argues that social media is changing how people connect, do business, provide feedback, participate and organize, consult, share information, and learn.
