- Welcome to the “What’s New in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012” presentation. This new release can help civil engineers, especially transportation professionals who work on roads and highway projects, perform their jobs more effectively.
- Letme give you a quick overview of what we will be looking at in this presentation. The 2012 release focuses on a number of key areas that enableyou to:Support organizational standards: Even as the industry becomes more focused on BIM, there is no escaping the creation of project documents. Civil 3D 2012 includes new functionality for styles and settings management, as well as improvements to labels. Additional integration with Autodesk® Vault Collaboration data management tools means that the project team can focus more on building a better design and less on worrying about keeping things organized.Enhance transportation design: With new functionality in geometry creation, corridor editing and superelevation modeling, transportation designers will be better equipped to work on large, complex road and highway projects.Extend visualization and analysis: Take advantage of new tools for surfaces, water analysis and civil visualization that enable you to get more from your model at every step of the design process.Throughout this presentation and demonstration, we will discuss these new features and improved functionality in detail.
- Every CAD manager knows how much time it takes to educate users on corporate standards. Civil 3D 2012 brings more tools to make that job a little easier. The new Style and Settings Management tools in Civil 3D 2012 give CAD managers the power to copy styles and settings from a corporate template, replace them in drawings and even purge unwanted styles or help find where styles are in use.In addition to help matching corporate standards, these tools may be useful when working with outside contractors, or meeting submittal standards for certain municipalities or other regulating authorities.
- Sometimes, something very small can make a big difference in your workflow. Two new features make labeling your model just a little bit easier. Labels can now be rotated independent of their marker to account for overwriting issues or aesthetic preferences. Also, a value for maximum label width will force a text wrap if the label contents are too wide.
- Autodesk® Vault Collaboration AEC 2012 software is tightly integrated with certain Autodesk design applications. Deep integration can help streamline data management associated with civil engineering or multidiscipline projects—from planning through design and construction—and can help save time and improve data accuracy.Civil engineers need solid tools for sharing AutoCAD Civil 3D elements between team members. Autodesk Vault Collaboration AEC has purpose-built data management tools for managing point, terrain, alignment, profile, and pipe information among Civil 3D users. This offers the team more control and flexibility for building the project model and producing final construction deliverables.Vault Collaboration AEC now features Sheet Set Manager integration as well.
- Civil 3D 2012 includes a variety of improvements to road geometry creation. New alignment tools including alignment constraint swapping, alignment LandXML import enhancements, and entity highlighting make it easiedr to edit and navigate your design.Annotation improvements, such as additional alignment labels and more flexible profile band styles, help make it easier to follow standards for road design documentation.
- In Civil 3D 2011, you saw some pretty extensive improvements to the corridor creation and editing workflow. Autodesk has taken this theme to the next level with even more improvements designed to enhance your current road design process for Civil 3D 2012.The corridor editing process has been improved to include additional options such as changing the assembly and adjusting targets for a region in Cross Section Editor; adjusting subassembly parameters using grip editing tools; and a visual station tracker that works in plan, profile and section.Improved corridor functionality also includes the ability to sample multiple baselines of a corridor, or even multiple corridors in the Cross Section Editor and cross section views. This is a major enhancement to the transportation workflow- facilitating documentation of intersections and other complicated models, as well as allow for better extraction of corridor quantities.
- Superelevation was another area of improvement in the previous release that Autodesk has taken even further for Civil 3D 2012. Users can now specify an axis of rotation location, simplifying the way subassemblies use superelevation information. An added parameter to specify the maximum shoulder roll over rate has also been added to the stored superelevation for the alignment.
- Terrain models are a critical piece of the civil engineering workflow for any project. Data types including memory intensive LiDAR, DEM and point clouds are being used to create surfaces. Civil 3D 2012 brings improvement to the large surface workflow with the ability to control surface level of detail. Zoom out, and your surface shows you less detail. Zoom in, and you see more information. The result is a rich and detailed surface model that helps to show you what you need to see.Another enhancement is an improvement to surface volume analysis display. New tools provided automated methods to display surface volume bands in meaningful ways.
- Extend the value of sanitary and water network data available in SHP format by intelligently importing this pipe data into Civil 3D 2012 as a Civil 3D pipe network. A major challenge for designers working on water projects is the delineation of drainage catchment areas. Combined with our existing surface analysis tools, the new catchment area object improves the stormwater analysis workflow. The catchment object includes the ability to add time of concentration information. Additionally, these objects are leveraged in Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis with an export tool built right into the Civil 3D user interface.Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis is included with Civil 3D 2012. New export tools have been built into the Civil 3D user interface, along with the automatic import of the Civil 3D drawing as a background in Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis.The Autodesk Connection Point is a simple object that allows pipe connection data to be shared between several Autodesk applications. For example, if your team was working on an project with a designer using AutoCAD® Plant 3D 2012 software, the connection point could be brought into Civil 3D. Your Civil 3D pipe network could then be intelligently attached to the connector. This gives you better tools to help keep those multidiscipline models coordinated.
- Autodesk Civil View exporter, an export utility for Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design 2012 is installed with Civil 3D 2012 and is accessible from the Civil 3D user interface. 3ds Max Design can be used to create near photorealistic rendering and animations that tell the story behind designs at various stages of the process. Dynamically link to data, evaluate designs and communicate project intent with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
