This document outlines water survival training presented by Group 11 NSTP 2. It discusses the importance of water survival training, including lowering drowning risk, building strength, increasing water confidence, and saving lives. It then describes various equipment used in water survival training like rescue tubes, backboards, ring buoys, lifejackets, first aid kits, and defibrillators. It also outlines water safety skills like survival floating, back floating, treading water, and using flotation devices. The document provides essential water safety rules and techniques for improvising flotation devices from clothing if stranded in water.
2. Water survival training is for people or
groups who are likely to be in a life-
or-death scenario in the water.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
1.Lowers the risk of drowning
2.Build body strength
3.Increase confidence in water
4.Can save other’s lives

3. A backboard, also known as a
spineboard, is used by lifeguards to
rescue victims who have suffered
injuries in the water or have fallen
unconscious and are unable to
support themselves.
EQUIPMENTS IN WATER SURVIVAL TRAINING
A rescue tube is made up of high-
density foam and used in multiple
ways to protect the victim from
drowning.
01. RESCUE TUBE 02. BACKBOARD/SPINEBOARD
4. Lifejackets are a familiar piece of
safety equipment and they are very
effective in life-saving techniques.
EQUIPMENTS IN WATER SURVIVAL TRAINING
Ring buoys are one of the most
frequently used safety equipment by
lifeguards, for deep-sea rescues.
03. RING BUOYS 04. LIFEJACKETS
5. Automated External Defibrillators,
or AEDs for short, are one of the
most critical tools used by
lifeguards.

EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS
6. Resting position. Let the body float in the
water
Preparing to exhale position. Make swimming
motions with arms until head is above water.
Exhaling position. Exhale.
Inhaling position. Inhale.
Resting position. Allow body to return to
resting position.
WATER SAFETY SKILLS
1. SURVIVAL FLOATING
2. BACK FLOATING OR SCULLING
Lie back, kick feet slightly and move arms
from side to side. Very little motion is
required to remain afloat.
7. WATER SAFETY SKILLS
3. EMERGENCY FLOTATION DEVICE
4. TREADING WATER
Practice removing clothing such as pants or shirts in the water and filling them
with air to make a flotation device. Tie off the pant legs or shirt sleeves and
raise them above the head scooping air into them.
8. PROPER USE OF LIFE VEST (PERSONAL FLOATION DEVICE/PFD)

9. 1. Learn to swim.
2. Never swim alone.
3. Swim at a safe
place, preferably with
lifeguards present.
4. Don’t swim when
overheated or
overtired.
5. Before diving, make
certain the water is
deep enough and that
there are no hidden
objects.
6. Don’t swim further
away from shore than
you are able;
distances in water
are misleading.
7. When distance
swimming, always be
accompanied by
someone in a boat who
remains close by.
8. Learn and practice
the skills of
survival floating,
treading water, and
back floating.
9. Learn and practice
the skills of removing
shoes and clothing in
the water. (In very
cold water the clothes
should not be removed.)
10. Learn and practice
the skills of emergency
rescue in the water.
11. Learn and practice
the skills of mouth-to-
mouth artificial
respiration and CPR
(cardiopulmonary
resuscitation).
ESSENTIAL SAFETY RULES
10. HERE ARE
SEVERAL RULES
TO SAVE YOUR
LIFE ONE DAY:
(TRANSCRIBED FROM 8 GREAT TIPS FOR SURVIVAL AT SEA)
11. Most important trick as it works wonders in any desperate situation. Panic won't help
you. It can cloud your judgement and make you lose the rhythm of breathing.
SEVERAL RULES TO SAVE YOUR LIFE ONE DAY
8. CALM DOWN
7. CHOOSE THE RIGHT SWIMMING STYLE IN THIS SITUATION
The style of swimming determines how long your strength will last.
In calm water, swim on your back.
If waves splash around you, it's better to swim on your belly, for instance, try
breaststroke.
REMEMBER THESE TWO RULES
12. If you're in an open sea as a result of shipwreck or airplane water landing, there
must be plenty of things around you that perfectly keep afloat. It is better if it's a
boat or raft with which ships are equipped.
SEVERAL RULES TO SAVE YOUR LIFE ONE DAY
6. FIND SOMETHING THAT FLOATS
5. TAKE CARE OF CLOTHES
Don't remove your clothes, it will protect you from the sun. If you're half naked, try
to find something that can shelter you from the sun’s rays. Ideally build a tent.
If you have food rations, divide them into small daily portions. This will make them
last for a long time. If you don't have one, make a fishing rod from lace and a can
as a hook and try to fish.
4. DECIDE WHAT YOU'LL EAT
13. During sailing, water is more valuable than food. Afterall, you almost don't move and
you are wasting little energy. You have to consume the liquid constantly but never
drink seawater.
SEVERAL RULES TO SAVE YOUR LIFE ONE DAY
3. PROVIDE YOURSELF WITH LIQUID
Don't row.
Don't rush into the water if you see a ship in the distance.
Don't try to signal by fire.
If you're lucky to have signals life flare, don't send the flares up in a void. If
you found a fluorescein, dissolve it in the water when you can see an airplane or
ship.
2. SAVE YOURSELF PROPERLY. CONSIDER ALL YOUR RESCUE MEASURES CAREFULLY.
REMEMBER THESE SIMPLE RULES:
Condensate
Rainwater
Simple ways to get drinking water:
14. Despair is your most dangerous enemy. Don't give up hope of being safe. There are many
stories of people who are found in the open sea months after their disappearance.
SEVERAL RULES TO SAVE YOUR LIFE ONE DAY
DONT LOSE HOPE
1.
For instance, 25-year-old sailor Poon Lim who work on a
British merchant ship survived alone 133 days in the open
sea. After a shipwreck, he manages to find a raft with
fresh water, cookies, flares, and a flashlight.
Everyday, he eats only 2 cookies and 3
sips of water. To avoid muscle
atrophy, he even floated around the
raft twice a day. As you can see,
human possibilities are endless. The
main thing is to calm and hope for the
best.
15. HOW TO IMPROVISE A FLOAT
1. Take the pants off and tie a knot in each
ankle.
2. Hold the pants behind your head with the
waistband open, then whip them forward and down so
that you trap air in the trouser legs.
3. Tuck the legs under your arms and float in the
crotch of the pants. Air will probably leak out
slowly through the fabric, so repeat the process
as necessary
