Milan is Italy‘s second largest city and the capital of
the Lombardy region. The metropolis enchants visi-
tors with its striking flair that truly brings the spirit of
the dolce vita to life. Between the famous cathed-
ral and La Scala opera house wind streets and alleys
that are steeped in history and teeming with smart
restaurants, intimate bars and fashionable shops.
Many of the world‘s most recognised fashion labels
were founded here, including Valentino, Gucci, Ver-
sace, Prada, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana. Nowhere
else in the world can you combine a city break with
an extended shopping trip as perfectly as you can in
Milan.
The city‘s modern architecture is no less impressive
and important: Entire neighbourhoods have been
transformed and in a few years‘ time Milan‘s skyline
will have changed completely.
The dynamic dolce vita of Milan even extends to fine
dining: The city is the birthplace of numerous trends
that have been exported all over Europe, and its ris-
toranti compete to offer both locals and tourists the
very latest culinary innovations.
Highlights of Milan
• The Piazza del Duomo and the Duomo di Milano
(Milan Cathedral), the most important work of Go-
thic architecture in Italy.
• The sumptuous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shop-
ping mall with its elegant shops and cafés, which
is right next to the Piazza del Duomo.
• La Scala, one of the most famous opera houses in
the world, and its adjoining museum.
• Two of Italy‘s foremost art galleries, the Pinacoteca
Ambrosiana and the Pinacoteca di Brera, which is
home to one of Italy‘s most important art collec-
tions and second only to the Uffizi Gallery in Flo-
rence.
• Sempione park and the Castello Sforzesco, a ma-
gnificent fortress in its grounds. Particular high-
lights here are the room frescoed by Leonardo
von Da Vinci and Michelangelo‘s Pieta Rondani-
ni, a marble sculpture that he worked on until his
death in 1564.
• The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which hou-
ses The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci.
• Via Montenapoleone, Italy‘s most fashionable
street for luxury shopping and browsing luxury
goods.
