GHP Divorce Solicitors Norwich | Part 3 - Things That May Slow Down the Divorce Process
1. The UK Divorce Process Part 2
What can happen to slow down the
process and what to do
See how GHP Solicitors can help you – go to www.greenland-houchen.co.uk
2. What Can Hold up the Process?
Usually where there is disagreement about:
•Care of children
•Maintenance
•Division of assets
•Costs
Also where one or both of you is withholding
information needed for the divorce
(That person may end up liable for costs)
So what happens?
See how GHP Solicitors can help you – go to www.greenland-houchen.co.uk
3. Mediation
When you are in disagreement, before you
apply for a court order, ask you solicitor about
you and your spouse attending mediation
This is where you and your spouse work with a
trained individual who can help you reach an
agreement without recourse to the courts
What happens if mediation doesn’t work?
See how GHP Solicitors can help you – go to www.greenland-houchen.co.uk
4. Expert Witnesses
Your solicitor may suggest using an ‘expert witness’;
in this case, they will be chosen for their impartiality
They provide an independent valuation of your
property or assets (whatever it is you can’t agree on)
Q: Can we just have one witness between us?
Y: Yes, this is usually the case where the dispute
involves finances
Can the court help?
See how GHP Solicitors can help you – go to www.greenland-houchen.co.uk
5. Disagreements Can be
Settled by the Court
The court will encourage you to settle your own
differences
If you can’t, you can apply to the court to sort
things out for you
Expect a ‘court order’ which makes the court’s
decision official
What else can hold things up?
See how GHP Solicitors can help you – go to www.greenland-houchen.co.uk
6. Withholding Information
Even if you think it’s unfair, you must give your
solicitor full details about your financial
circumstances; incomings, outgoings and assets
If you don’t do this, and/or your spouse doesn’t,
then the whole divorce process may be slowed
down...
...and you may be asked to pay court costs
What do I do next?

7. Where Can I Get Help?

spouse
