The mobile device scheme itself saves us money. Our learning platform is the glue which holds the scheme together and allows us to use the devices to meet learning goals.

- Didactic approach to learning. Sometimes useful, many times not! Is this classroom being led by the learning activity?
- This type of classroom on the other hand is far more flexible and is centred around learning and the learner. The teacher takes the role of facilitator and delivers new information as and when it is needed. However, for this type of classroom to work it needs a flexible learning space. If technology is going to be fully utilised in this type of learning it also needs to be flexible and portable.
- We do okay!... Our ICT provision is excellent. We give our students a good deal. We have technology available everywhere and in all of our social spaces. And at home!! It still isn’t flexible enough though, students are pinned to the side of the classroom, they are constrained by the time it takes to log on, by the programs we have installed, we have to book out digital toolkits with cameras and microphones in, etc. What else can we do?...
- The obvious answer is mobile technology which we have gone for big style this past year as have many schools. The technology offers all of the things we need, it is portable, flexible, reliable and allows our students, staff and parents to take advantage of a whole host of useful apps, hardware, our own purpose made apps, oh and the Internet! Here are just some of the obvious uses for this technology.
- The obvious answer is mobile technology which we have gone for big style this past year as have many schools. The technology offers all of the things we need, it is portable, flexible, reliable and allows our students, staff and parents to take advantage of a whole host of useful apps, hardware, our own purpose made apps, oh and the Internet! Here are just some of the obvious uses for this technology.
- There are obvious problems. As a school we can’t afford to buy each student a device. However, running a parental contribution scheme has meant we have spent around £6000 and have kitted 300+ year 7 students and 60 staff with one of these devices, accessories and insurance. £16 a device, not bad! A total saving of over £160,000 in a year!Where does our learning platform come in? The device itself is not necessarily going to impact on learning. It is how it is used and how easy it is for our students to access the ways in which we want them to use it for their learning. If it is not used for learning or effectively then the whole scheme falls down as parents won’t be willing to buy into it (and rightly so!).Frog is the glue which holds it all together for us. It is our portal to all of the learning tools we use with the device, the method we use to communicate, where students access learning resources on the devices and even where they go to download apps we want them to use. It is their eBook library, their learning toolkit, their single sign on access to their office suite (google docs) and where they go to get school information. It is even where they listen to their school radio station. Without an effective learning platform it would be a great deal more challenging for this scheme to succeed long term.
