The Vault Tec kid is used to advertise a
massive franchise known by many with his
signature thumbs up and the slogan
welcome home giving a feeling of safety
and comfort, this is a good type of false
advertising because most fallouts are gritty
horrible post war apocalypse game. This
advertising idea is bringing fallout the real
world mixing the two. This immerses the
viewer into the world and really brings it to
life for them.
The gameplay in fallout 4 introduced the
franchise to the next generation of
consoles therefor able to handle more
making the game run smother and having
new mechanics that help the game feel
better to the audience. Lighting in fallout
4 was brighter than 3 this was because
the engine could handle more and make
more complex shadows and lighting for
the world and everything in it. While
keeping a post apocalyptic landscape it
made it a much more enjoyable and
brighter experience.
3. Existing Product
This is a simplistic design that advertises the
game shown. Although this is a very different
poster showing T45 power armour that is a high
level armour you can get in the game. This
poster is a dark morbid looking one this tells the
viewer that this is a very different type of game
they maybe used to. As seen in both bottom
corners on the left we have age rating for the
game. And on the right we have the games
developer. Giving an idea on what to expect
from the game (to previous fans).
This shows gameplay from the actual game,
this was a fresh change in the franchise that
would forever change it switching it from a
point and go genre of game to a first's and
third person RPG. With a VATS system this
kept the pace if a player wanted slower
gameplay. Suiting multiple play styles.
4. Existing Product
This advertising is similar to the
previous although it gives us much
more context to location. This is
told in the name “new vegas” and a
city in the background that looks
like is still alive in a morbid
wasteland. The cover makes it look
like a western game with the
protagonist hold a revolver and is
unknown and masked to the
viewer. They sky give a post
apocalyptic feel to it due to the
dark colours and its lit up like a
atomic bomb. The gameplay in New
Vegas was a lot like its previous
game (fallout 3) with the same
engine keeping the same feel and
look to the game.
5. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
• All different versions of the same franchise that I want to recreate in my
game.
• Two of them have an unknown protagonist in the cover wile all have
things that we know about the main game concept in.
• All post apocalyptic looking.
• The gameplay differed due to the time it was made with the older games
having much darker grittier colures limiting them to what they could do
while the newer one had much brighter colures and was able to do more
with the landscape.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
• For cover art I may combine the two or use the vault kid and dress him for
different scenarios changing the character. This will tell the viewer that
this is going to be a very different fallout game but keep man concepts of
the game.
