What type of waste are
presented in the picture?
8. Terms To Remember:
Recycling – to convert or transform a material into another
material that can be used.
Products – refer to different items produced and used.
Conservation – planned management of natural resources
Disposal – getting rid of things that are no longer needed.
Variant – different kinds or classes.
Reuse – to use again for some or another purpose.
Junk – refers to old paper, metal, plastic, wood, glass & tires.
Junkshop – a place that buys and sells junk products.
Pharmaceutical – relating to medicine production
9. Waste Material
Waste materials include containers & packages made of
plastic, polystyrene, paper, glass, metal, rubbers, and others.
Some of the wastes do not decompose but can be recycled.
10. Different Types of Recyclables
Electronic waste – cartridges, CD, DVDs, cellphones,
computers, television, appliances, electronic gadgets, and
toys
11. Different Types of Recyclables
Industrial waste – leftovers from extractions and production
processing in making paper, steel, cement, processed food,
pesticides, pharmaceutical and others.
12. Different Types of Recyclables
Construction and demolition waste – concrete, G.I. sheets,
wood, metal, plastic, glass, doors, and window
13. Different Types of Recyclables
Medical waste – pharmaceutical waste, needles, syringes,
radioactive waste, and food waste.
14. Different Types of Recyclables
Municipal solid waste – waste commonly called garbage
from home and commercial establishment.
15. Different Types of Recyclables
Other types of waste – wastes found at home that can be
converted into something useful and/or decorative.
16. Waste Materials That Are Recyclable
Wood
Wood waste coming from houses, construction sites, and
old furniture can be processed and introduced as new
products. They can be turned into wood tiles, garden
accessories, wooden utensils, chairs, and wooden
decorations at home.
17. Waste Materials That Are Recyclable
Metal
Tins and cans as packaging or container of food and drinks
are made of metal and aluminum. They are good materials
for recycling. They are even sold to junkshops where
companies of food and drinks buy them to be reused to
conserve energy and other resources.
18. Waste Materials That Are Recyclable
Paper
Old newspapers, old notebooks, old letters, cardboard, junk
office papers, and paper packaging are examples of paper
waste. These materials can be processed and recycled into
something useful and unique like paper baskets, paper-
Mache, paper flowers, paper bags, and other decorative
paper figures.
19. Waste Materials That Are Recyclable
Plastic
Empty plastic bottles and containers of soft drinks, water,
oil, and other products are great recyclable materials. The
plastics are soft and bendable. They can be cut with scissors
and cutters to form them into figures like flowers, animals,
butterflies, and other decorative products. Huge plastic
bottles are even made as pots for flowers and vegetables.
20. Waste Materials That Are Recyclable
Glass
Glass among others is the easiest material to reuse or
recycle. Empty bottles of various products come in different
variants, colors, and sizes. They are best turned into wall
decors, flower vases, and holders of artificial or fresh
flowers. Empty wine glasses add elegance to the wall and
cabinets of the house when displayed artistically.
21. Waste Materials That Are Recyclable
Rubbers and tires
Recycling rubbers and tires are discovered recently. Tires of
motorcycles and trucks are made into beautiful animal
figures which make our school garden more attractive.
23. Commercial Recycling Process
Safety Precaution
• Always use protective gloves and PPEs when handling
waste especially those that have sharp edges, pointed
parts, and those that are chemically hazardous.
• Use masks when handling vapor-based wastes.
• Do not directly damage pressurized canisters and tanks.
• Avoid using fire in disposing of waste materials.
• Report to authorities when biohazard and/or nuclear
waste are found.
• Consult medical personnel when in contact with possible
contaminated medical waste.
25. Summary
Recyclables refer to materials that can be recycled or reused
after they are discarded. By properly disposing of these
materials in designated recycling bins, we can help to
conserve natural resources, reduce waste, and promote a
more sustainable future. It's important to ensure that
recyclables are clean and free from contaminants to prevent
contamination of the recycling stream. While recycling is
generally considered safe, there are some health risks
associated with handling certain types of recyclable waste.
It's important to wear appropriate protective equipment,
such as gloves and safety goggles when handling potentially
hazardous recyclable materials. Additionally, it's important to
follow proper procedures for disposing of hazardous waste,
such as taking it to a designated hazardous waste facility.
