Mumbai: Deputy
Chief Minister Dev-
endra Fadnavis on
Saturday said the
2024 Assembly elec-
tions will be contest-
ed under the leader-
ship of Chief Minis-
ter Eknath Shinde.
Speaking at an event
in Mumbai, he also said
that the toppling of the
Uddhav Thackeray-led
Maha Vikas Aghadi
(MVA) government was
a “revenge” for a “be-
trayal”.
The Bharatiya Jana-
ta Party (BJP) will con-
test the coming civic
polls as well as the next
Lok Sabha and Assem-
bly elections in alliance
with the Shinde-led
Balasahebanchi Shiv
Sena, he said.
“In 2024, we will fight
the election under the
leadership of Eknath
Shinde as chief minis-
ter and me as deputy
CM and we will return
with a huge majority,”
said Fadnavis.
He also said that the
Shiv Sena and Uddhav
Thackeray betrayed
him and the BJP in
2019 when they ended
the saffron alliance
and joined hands with
the Nationalist Con-
gress Party (NCP) and
Congress to form a
government.
“If Eknath Shinde
wanted to leave Shiv
Sena because of the
way he was treated by
Uddhav Thackeray and
Aaditya Thackeray, we
were not going to ask
him to go back. We were
going to welcome him
and support him. We
have taken revenge for
the betrayal,” said Fad-
navis who was the chief
minister of the BJP-Se-
na government from
2014 to 2019.
He also reiterated
that the BJP never
promised the chief min-
ister’s post for half the
term to the Shiv Sena as
the latter claimed.
Instead of sharing
the CM’s post, the BJP
had offered the Pal-
ghar Lok Sabha seat
and more ministries in
the state to the Sena
and finalized the alli-
ance, he claimed.
Eknath Shinde be-
coming chief minister
instead of him after
the fall of the Thack-
eray government was
not a “shocker”, Fad-
navis asserted. “Shin-
de was made chief
minister after consul-
tation with me. It was
my proposal, so it was
not a shocker for me,”
he said.

REGIONAL PARTIES
SHOW THEIR
STRENGTH IN
ASSEMBLY BY-POLLS
f the state assembly by-
election results have any
message it is that the BJP
is becoming increasingly
unstoppable. It has won
the Gola Gokarannath seat in
Uttar Pradesh, Haryana’s Ad-
ampur and Odisha’s Dhamna-
gar seats. The BJP also retained
the Gopalganj seat. The Con-
gress, on the other hand, has
come a cropper, which is bad
news for its prospects in Gujarat
and Himachal Pradesh.
The regional parties like Shiv
Sena (Uddhav), Rashtriya Jana-
ta Dal and Telangana Rashtra
Samithi denied victory to BJP in
prestigious and close battles for
Mumbai’s Andheri East, Bihar’s
Mokama and Telangana’s
Munugode seats. The Munugode
win is of special interest as the
BJP was desperate to grab this
seat. Andheri East victory has
come as a boost to Uddhav
Thackeray faction’s claim of en-
joying people’s support over
that of Eknath Shinde faction.
Significantly, these results
provide a clearer picture of Op-
position unity before the 2024
parliamentary election. It is the
regional parties which will pose
a challenge to the BJP.

claim of being a democracy,
it has not been able to get out
of the army and ISI’s shadow.
The role of ISI is alleged in
the killing of a Pakistani

the assassination attempt on

Shehbaz Sharif described

To tighten the screws on
PTI, the country’s electronic

P
INDIA CRUSHES ZIMBABWE,
STRIDES INTO SEMIS AS SURYA SHINES
he Men in Blue have left the
ghosts of the 2021 T20 world
Cup well behind them as they
enter the semi-finals topping
their group in the league
stage. On Sunday, in front of
an 80 thousand plus crowd in
Melbourne Cricket Ground,
India won by 71 runs against
Zimbabwe and set up a semi-
final clash against England
on Thursday
. India’s win had
all the bases covered as they
dominated the match in all
departments of the game.
But the cherry on the cake
was Suryakumar Yadav’s
scintillating hitting in the
last 5 overs of Indian innings.
His 61 of 25 balls not only
made sure that India reached
a formidable total but also
reminded Indian fans about
how good a middle order
batsman Surya is and the one
that Team India was missing
over the past few years.
India’s berth in the Semis
was already booked after
Netherlands pulled off a stun-
ning upset over South Africa
earlier in the day
. But as is
rightly said, momentum is
easy to lose and one must
keep it going as long as pos-
sible, especially heading into
the business end of a major
tournament. So, it was impor-
tant for India to win comfort-
ably to stay confident before
thebigclashagainstEngland.
India made only one change
in their line up as Rishabh
Pant was included in the elev-
eninplaceof DineshKarthik.
Winning the toss, Rohit Shar-
ma chose to bat first. This was
a correct decision according
to most experts particularly
since Rohit himself needed to
find form and spend some
time at the wicket.
Sadly, the Indian skipper
was unable to benefit much
from batting first as he was
dismissed quickly once
again. His terrific shot mak-
ing against short pitched
balls is proving to be his nem-
esis for the time being on the
bouncy pitches of Australia
and Rohit holed out pulling
one straight to deep square
leg scoring just 15. Kohli and
Rahul then kept the score
card moving, stitching a 60-
run partnership for the sec-
ond wicket. Rahul was the
aggressor between the two
and he put up another classy
show of his striking abilities.
His 51 off 35 balls set up the
base for a big total and at the
halfway stage, India was at 80
having lost just 1 wicket.
It was then that a mini col-
lapse threatened to derail In-
dia. Rahul, Kohli and Pant all
perished within a span of
just 14 runs. The stage was
set for a Hardik and Surya
show. While Hardik played
the second fiddle making 18
of 18 balls, Surya stole the
limelight with his 4 sixes and
6 fours. His constant scoop-
ing of Zimbabwean bowlers
over the short fine leg for
boundaries and sixers had all
fans in a tizzy
. His knock put
India in a powerful position
and gave their bowlers a
strong total of 186 to defend.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has
been in fine form since his
return from injury and has
bowled many dot balls in pow-
erplay overs. His first over
was a maiden again as he
picked up a wicket on his very
first delivery
. Kohli dived to
pick up a stunning catch to
dismiss Wessly Madhevere. It
was total capitulation from
then on by the Zimbabwe
batsman. All Indian bowlers
chipped in with wickets at
regular intervals. After the
powerplay Zimbabwe was at
27 runs having lost 3 wickets
and then got reduced to 36 for
5 in the next two overs. Si-
kandarRazahasbeenthebest
batsman for Zimbabwe in the
tournament and his 34 along
with Ryan Burl’s 35 took their
team to a semblance of a total
before it all concluded in the
18th over as they were bowled
for a paltry 115.
The Men in Blue now head
to Adelaide for their semi-fi-
nal meeting with England.
India’s roaring juggernaut
has gained the much-needed
confidence ahead of the
knock-out contest. England
meanwhile, struggled to win
against a weak Sri Lankan
team in their last league
game. Both teams though
were tagged as the favorites
at the start of the tournament
and now stand just 2 wins
away from ultimate glory

Srinagar (ANI): Tour-
ists are thronging JK
with the onset of the
autumn season in the
valley and winter all set
to fall in some time.
One reason behind
the tourists (local and
foreign) heading to J-K
is the poplar tree which
has become an impor-
tant part of the Kash-
miri culture. The poplar
here doubles the beauty
of the place due to its
height and beauty, a re-
port said. In the months
of October and Novem-
ber, the view of poplars
in Kashmir gives a dif-
ferent colour. In sum-
mer, poplar trees are
dressed in deep red, yel-
low and amber colours.
The beautiful atmos-
phere of the region is
enhanced by the cool-
ness in the air, mild sun-
shine throughout the
day, cold mornings and
evenings and burning
poplar trees all around
during this period.
Mughal Gardens are
the first choice of tour-
ists during this season
as these gardens are
filled with poplar trees.
Kashmir is known
and recognized all over
the world because of its
changing seasons, be it
winter or summer,
spring or autumn. All
the weathers here have
a different feel and vis-
ual appeal.
However, walking on
the fallen poplar leaves
in the autumn season is
a different experience
for tourists, report said.
“The thing here is dif-
ferent. We have seen

ies till now. The joy and
happiness that is felt to-
day by witnessing them
cannot be expressed in
words,” said Mumbai-
based Busha Patel who
visited Kashmir.

Pune: A doctor from
Pune has embarked
on a mission to save
the girl child by waiv-
ing the fees if a baby
girl is born in his hos-
pital, but also makes
sure the little one
gets a rousing wel-
come.
As part of his ‘Beti
Bachao Janandolan’
initiative, Dr Ganesh
Rakh, who runs a ma-
ternity-cum-multispe-
ciality hospital in Ha-
dapsar area of Maha-
rashtra, has been trying
to create awareness
against female foeticide
and infanticide.
He claims to have de-
livered more than 2,400
girl children in the last
11 years without charg-
ing fees from their par-
ents and relatives.
According to Dr
Rakh, the small initia-
tive that he started in
2012 at his Medicare
Hospital has now
spread across various
states and in some Afri-
can countries.
“Before 2012, in the
initial years of the hos-
pital, we came across
different experiences
here where in some cas-
es if a girl was born, the
family members would
shy away from coming
to see her. That picture
struck me and gave me
a fillip to do something
to save the girl child and
create awareness about
gender equality,” said
the doctor, while hold-
ing a newborn girl in
his arms.
Dr Rakh said as per a
government survey,
there were more than
six crore female foeti-
cide cases in the last 10
years. This is a kind of
“genocide”, he claimed.
The reason for female
foeticide is people’s pref-
erence for a son. This is
not limited to one re-
gion, state, or a country
,
but it is a global societal
issue, he said.
“As per our survey, of
late there has been a re-
markable drop in cases
of female infanticide
and this is a positive
takeaway,” added Dr
Rakh.

hospital, said as part of

New alliance between BJP,

First India Bureau
Mumbai: Even as the
two factions of the

,
former Chief Minis-

could well face a big-

A new alliance seems

requesting it to look
into the inadequate
mental health support
system present for

The complaint was
filed after the head

The email filed by

After receiving the
complaint, the NCST
decided to look into
the matter under sec-

asked the Ministry of

information on the ac-
tions taken against
these allegations
within 15 days of the

he trench coat is a
great investment
piece for trans-sea-
sonal clothing, and
its enduring value
rests in its adapta-
bility. Indeed, the
belted waist assures a flatter-
ing fit with no effort, while its
timeless design gives simple
layering choices for any out-
fit - from dresses and jeans to
knitwear and tailored pants.
A trench coat is a must
have in everyone's closet.
You can't go wrong with
them; they're versatile, clas-
sic, and ready for any
weather. Whether you're a
fan of layering a trench coat
over a T-shirt and blazer for
extra warmth, or you like to
drape it over your shoul-
ders, a trench coat has the
magical power to make any
outfit feel a million times
more polished.
Your shoes may also dras-
tically alter the look of
your outfit: keep it casual
with sneakers, or dress it
up with loafers, ballerina
flats, pumps, or ankle
boots. Instead of jeans,
you may wear a basic cot-
ton or sweater dress be-
neath.
Trench coats have de-
veloped from a useful
garment to a more fash-
ion-forward garment,
with a plethora of design
and material options
available. Cut-outs,
asymmetries, embroi-
deries, a combination of
patterns, hues, and ma-

tions so that every-
body may choose one
or more variants of
the trench coat to
wear and combine in
the most diverse
ways. A trench coat
may provide that ex-

your wardrobe if
you want to dress to

, Dr Du-

When asked to give a
brief about the app, Dr Du-
shyant said, “FitKutumb is
coming up with certified
and experienced trainers
to create a fit and healthy
environment. It is going to
play a major role in saving
people’s time as one can
book a trainer and physio-
therapist at their homes
according to their conveni-
ence. The platform pro-
vides various exercises,
professional trainers, a
healthy diet and a lot
more.” He further contin-
ued, “We all had gone
through the painful Cov-
id-19 situation, that not
only affected the lives of
people physically but men-
tally too. Since then we also
saw major changes in the
lifetsyle of people. People
got more vigilant towards
their health. Also with the
rise in work from home
concept, people’s health
started to get affected.
Their metabolism and im-
munity slowed down in
that phase. People are now
working for more than 10
hours and are not able to
give time to their health
and fitness. So FitKutumb
is coming up with a solu-
tion by providing trainers
at your doorstep.”
When asked about what
challenges one had to go
through, he said, it was
challenging at various lev-
els. To be able to find good
developers who can work
on our idea with the same
passion as we have was one
of the biggest. Then it was
also a task to look for well-
certified trainers since In-
dia still has a shortage of
certified professional
trainers. We were fortu-
nate enough to come across
hardworking and sincere
trainers and provided
them with multiple work-
outs training before they
could finally reach people.”
Whether the session
would be available offline
or online, Dushyant smil-
ingly answered, “This app
provides a platform for the
patients to consult both on-
line and offline sessions.
One can book their ses-

connect patients to certi-
fied physiotherapists. Af-

.”
He further added, not
only patients can consult
the doctor but will also be
provided with proper coun-

conversation, Dr Dushyant

message to the younger
generation said, “As we are

WILL FULFILL LATE HUSBAND’S PROMISES, RUTUJA LATKE VOWS First India Bureau Mumbai: Rutuja Latke, the candidate of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Bal- asaheb Thackeray), on Sunday promised to carry forward her late husband’s legacy after winning the bypoll to Andheri (East) Assem- bly seat in Mumbai. “This victory is of my husband and the de- velopment works he did in Andheri. He made a promise and I will work towards fulfilling that,” she said after her land- slide win. She bagged 66,530 votes out of the total 86,570 votes, followed by 12,806 votes polled in fa- vour of the None of the Above (NOTA) option, an official said. NOTA gives voters the option not to vote for any of the candi- dates in an election. Latke was pitted against six independent candidates in the No- vember 03 bypoll, neces- sitated due to the death of sitting Shiv Sena MLA and her husband Ramesh Latke in May . Speaking at an event in Mumbai, he also said that the toppling of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was a “revenge” for a “be- trayal”. The Bharatiya Jana- ta Party (BJP) will con- test the coming civic polls as well as the next Lok Sabha and Assem- bly elections in alliance with the Shinde-led Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena, he said. “In 2024, we will fight the election under the leadership of Eknath Shinde as chief minis- ter and me as deputy CM and we will return with a huge majority,” said Fadnavis. He also said that the Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray betrayed him and the BJP in 2019 when they ended the saffron alliance and joined hands with the Nationalist Con- gress Party (NCP) and Congress to form a government. “If Eknath Shinde wanted to leave Shiv Sena because of the way he was treated by Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray, we were not going to ask him to go back. We were going to welcome him and support him. We have taken revenge for the betrayal,” said Fad- navis who was the chief minister of the BJP-Se- na government from 2014 to 2019. He also reiterated that the BJP never promised the chief min- ister’s post for half the term to the Shiv Sena as the latter claimed. Instead of sharing the CM’s post, the BJP had offered the Pal- ghar Lok Sabha seat and more ministries in the state to the Sena and finalized the alli- ance, he claimed. Eknath Shinde be- coming chief minister instead of him after the fall of the Thack- eray government was not a “shocker”, Fad- navis asserted. “Shin- de was made chief minister after consul- tation with me. SPIRITUAL SPEAK Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. —Bible IN-DEPTH REGIONAL PARTIES SHOW THEIR STRENGTH IN ASSEMBLY BY-POLLS f the state assembly by- election results have any message it is that the BJP is becoming increasingly unstoppable. It has won the Gola Gokarannath seat in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana’s Ad- ampur and Odisha’s Dhamna- gar seats. The BJP also retained the Gopalganj seat. The Con- gress, on the other hand, has come a cropper, which is bad news for its prospects in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. The regional parties like Shiv Sena (Uddhav), Rashtriya Jana- ta Dal and Telangana Rashtra Samithi denied victory to BJP in prestigious and close battles for Mumbai’s Andheri East, Bihar’s Mokama and Telangana’s Munugode seats. The Munugode win is of special interest as the BJP was desperate to grab this seat. Andheri East victory has come as a boost to Uddhav Thackeray faction’s claim of en- joying people’s support over that of Eknath Shinde faction. Significantly, these results provide a clearer picture of Op- position unity before the 2024 parliamentary election. It is the regional parties which will pose a challenge to the BJP. TOP TWEETS I oliticians and journalists in Pa- kistan have to be careful not to rub the army and the ISI on the wrong side. If they do, they either end up in a mortuary or in the wilder- ness. Despite Pakistan’s claim of being a democracy, it has not been able to get out of the army and ISI’s shadow. The role of ISI is alleged in the killing of a Pakistani journalist in Kenya and also the assassination attempt on former Prime Minister Im- ran Khan. Imran Khan al- leged Prime Minister She- hbaz Sharif, Interior Minis- ter Rana Sanaullah and Ma- jor-General Faisal Naseer were part of the conspiracy to eliminate him. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party president’s charge has not gone down well with the army which has issued a terse warning. In a statement the Army said that the “baseless allegations against the institution and particularly a senior Army officer are absolutely unac- ceptable and uncalled for”. Shehbaz Sharif described Imran Khan as a liar “from head to toe”. To tighten the screws on PTI, the country’s electronic media watchdog has passed a gag order on all electronic channels from broadcasting or rebroadcasting Imran Khan’s press conferences or speeches to avoid creating ha- tred among people. A similar gagorderissuedbythewatch- dog earlier was struck down by the Supreme Court of Pa- kistan. Free speech, anyone? These are not signs of a healthy democracy which, incidentally, Pakistan has never been. For the army and ISI a strong democracy is an anathema and the two insti- tutions prefer to keep their national and state govern- ments’ strings in their hands. IMRAN TAKES ON POWERFUL ARMY To tighten the screws on PTI, the country’s electronic media watchdog has passed a gag order on all electronic channels from broadcasting or rebroadcasting Imran’s press conferences or speeches to avoid creating hatred among people P INDIA CRUSHES ZIMBABWE, STRIDES INTO SEMIS AS SURYA SHINES he Men in Blue have left the ghosts of the 2021 T20 world Cup well behind them as they enter the semi-finals topping their group in the league stage. On Sunday, in front of an 80 thousand plus crowd in Melbourne Cricket Ground, India won by 71 runs against Zimbabwe and set up a semi- final clash against England on Thursday . India’s win had all the bases covered as they dominated the match in all departments of the game. But the cherry on the cake was Suryakumar Yadav’s scintillating hitting in the last 5 overs of Indian innings. His 61 of 25 balls not only made sure that India reached a formidable total but also reminded Indian fans about how good a middle order batsman Surya is and the one that Team India was missing over the past few years. India’s berth in the Semis was already booked after Netherlands pulled off a stun- ning upset over South Africa earlier in the day . But as is rightly said, momentum is easy to lose and one must keep it going as long as pos- sible, especially heading into the business end of a major tournament. So, it was impor- tant for India to win comfort- ably to stay confident before thebigclashagainstEngland. India made only one change in their line up as Rishabh Pant was included in the elev- eninplaceof DineshKarthik. Winning the toss, Rohit Shar- ma chose to bat first. This was a correct decision according to most experts particularly since Rohit himself needed to find form and spend some time at the wicket. Sadly, the Indian skipper was unable to benefit much from batting first as he was dismissed quickly once again. His terrific shot mak- ing against short pitched balls is proving to be his nem- esis for the time being on the bouncy pitches of Australia and Rohit holed out pulling one straight to deep square leg scoring just 15. Kohli and Rahul then kept the score card moving, stitching a 60- run partnership for the sec- ond wicket. Rahul was the aggressor between the two and he put up another classy show of his striking abilities. His 51 off 35 balls set up the base for a big total and at the halfway stage, India was at 80 having lost just 1 wicket. It was then that a mini col- lapse threatened to derail In- dia. Rahul, Kohli and Pant all perished within a span of just 14 runs. The stage was set for a Hardik and Surya show. While Hardik played the second fiddle making 18 of 18 balls, Surya stole the limelight with his 4 sixes and 6 fours. His constant scoop- ing of Zimbabwean bowlers over the short fine leg for boundaries and sixers had all fans in a tizzy . His knock put India in a powerful position and gave their bowlers a strong total of 186 to defend. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been in fine form since his return from injury and has bowled many dot balls in pow- erplay overs. His first over was a maiden again as he picked up a wicket on his very first delivery . Kohli dived to pick up a stunning catch to dismiss Wessly Madhevere. It was total capitulation from then on by the Zimbabwe batsman. All Indian bowlers chipped in with wickets at regular intervals. After the powerplay Zimbabwe was at 27 runs having lost 3 wickets and then got reduced to 36 for 5 in the next two overs. Si- kandarRazahasbeenthebest batsman for Zimbabwe in the tournament and his 34 along with Ryan Burl’s 35 took their team to a semblance of a total before it all concluded in the 18th over as they were bowled for a paltry 115. The Men in Blue now head to Adelaide for their semi-fi- nal meeting with England. India’s roaring juggernaut has gained the much-needed confidence ahead of the knock-out contest. England meanwhile, struggled to win against a weak Sri Lankan team in their last league game. Both teams though were tagged as the favorites at the start of the tournament and now stand just 2 wins away from ultimate glory . THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL T The other semi-final clash is between Pakistan and New Zealand, which is on Wednesday in Sydney. India doesn’t play Pakistan in bilateral series anymore but fans now wait for them to meet in such ICC events. The expectations of them clashing once more in the finals are immense and its not just the fans praying for this scenario to play out but the broadcasters all over the world too must be licking their lips of an India- Pakistan World Cup final in Melbourne next Sunday! He claims to have de- livered more than 2,400 girl children in the last 11 years without charg- ing fees from their par- ents and relatives. According to Dr Rakh, the small initia- tive that he started in 2012 at his Medicare Hospital has now spread across various states and in some Afri- can countries. “Before 2012, in the initial years of the hos- pital, we came across different experiences here where in some cas- es if a girl was born, the family members would shy away from coming to see her. That picture struck me and gave me a fillip to do something to save the girl child and create awareness about gender equality,” said the doctor, while hold- ing a newborn girl in his arms. Dr Rakh said as per a government survey, there were more than six crore female foeti- cide cases in the last 10 years. This is a kind of “genocide”, he claimed. The reason for female foeticide is people’s pref- erence for a son. This is not limited to one re- gion, state, or a country , but it is a global societal issue, he said. “As per our survey, of late there has been a re- markable drop in cases of female infanticide and this is a positive takeaway,” added Dr Rakh. The bonhomie be- tween Shinde, his depu- ty Devendra Fadnavis and Raj Thackeray were evident when the former two attended the MNS’s Deepotsav event in Shivaji Park on the eve of Diwali.
