Concept
Our concept is based on that feeling of ‘not giving in’ to
pressure. The song we have chosen is by Rudimental and is
called ‘Not Giving In’ and our idea revolves around the
important lyrics of the song. We felt that the lyrics
encapsulated the frustration of the characters. We thought
about the stressful situations that the characters could be in
and how we might be able to relate these to the lyrics “not
giving in.” In this music video we wanted to represent society
and a big community. For our music video we will be using
Andrew Goodwin’s theory in which the artist does not take on
the role of character but simply performs to the audience. With
this theory we would also be showing the emotions in the lyrics
and conveying them to the viewer. We have decided to use four
different locations for our music video which will show different
examples of the struggle against giving in to pressure.
Locations
The reason why we have chosen 4 different locations is so that the viewer does not get bored. It
will give a variety to our music video and create an interesting twist.
.Gym:
The gym would be representing the release of frustration and violence. Violence can be seen as a
way of storing up anger when someone does not want to back down and give in. We chose the gym
to show an appropriate and controlled way for releasing frustration as well as anger.
. Interrogation Room:
We decided to use the interrogation room as our next location to portray how people will not give
in to answering police questioning. In this location we want to focus on the waiting aspect and the
frustration it can cause. We would make it obvious to the viewer that it is an interrogation by using
a lamp in this scene.
. Business Office:
In this location the character would be pacing up and down the place and throwing objects off the
table as well as hitting tables. This would show his frustration. The other way we are showing this
is with the costume. We are having the character wearing a stressed suit. What we mean by this
is; shirt crumpled and hanging out, loose tie, messy hair and crumpled suit.
.Open Field:
We have decided to choose the field as our last location because it juxtaposes the freedom and
happiness of the character with the previous stressful locations.
