2. The LGBTQ+ community is a group of
people who have different sexualities or
gender identities.
LGBTQ+ stands for:
• Lesbian
• Gay
• Bisexual
• Transgender
• Queer/Questioning
• And others
3. Pride month is a month to celebrate
diversity and those who are in the
LGBTQ+ community. It helps those in the
community to feel appreciated.
4. June was chosen for Pride Month to
remember the Stonewall riots, which
happened at the end of June 1969. This
is why many pride events are held during
this month to recognize the mark LGBTQ+
people have had in the world.
5. The Stonewall Riots were violent protests by
members of the LGBTQ+ community against a
police raid that took place in the early morning
of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn.
The riots took place because in the 1950s to
1960s, police were targeting LGBTQ+ clubs and
bars.
6. • Be aware that not everyone is comfortable with
their own identity, and you should support them in
their quest to find who they are.
• Stop saying “OH THAT’S SO GAY” when you really
mean to say “That’s stupid / I don’t like that”
• Don’t make fun of people just because they’re
different
• Be aware that people around you may be part of
the community
• Be a friend.
• If you can’t say anything nice about it, don’t say
anything at all.
7. Sometimes, people will go by different
pronouns, and you should respect that.
If someone asks you to refer to them as
“she/her” when speaking, do so
If someone asks you to refer to them as
“he/him” when speaking, do so
The same goes for many other pronouns,
such as They/Them, It/Its, or even
Xe/Xer/Xim
