3. Connotation
Refers to the associations that are connected to a certain
word or the emotional suggestions related to that word.
Denotation
Refers to literal meaning of a word.
Example :
Snake
denotation the kind of reptile,
connotation evil or danger.
4. PARAPHRASE
two sentences that have different forms but the same meaning.
Example :
Giraffes like Accacia leaves and hay and they can consume 75 pounds of
foood a day.
A giraffe can eat up to 75 pounds of Acacia leaves and hay everyday.
5. ENTAILMENT
two sentence in which the truth of the first imples the truth of the
second, but the truth of the second does not necessarily imply the
truth of the first.
Example :
The president was assassinated The president is dead.
Barney killed the spider the spider is dead
6. CONTRADICTION
two sentence such that if one is true, the second must be false.
Example :
Dodo is extinct. A hunter has just shot a dodo
7. LABELING
describing someone or something in a word or short phrase.
Example :
If a parent is in prison a child will automatically be labelled as a trouble
maker
