Use Case N°1 Vehicle as a Lab
For lab, school, city, public stakeholder who want to improve its
knowledge, create new information, test, learn, educate
Type of Vehicle: all type can be used with a preference for European passenger car (Euro 4
minimum)
General: origin/destination, distance, speed, … engine problems, occupation rate
(number person in the vehicle)
o Needed data:
Minimal data set: speed, parking brake, key in ignition switch, GNSS
Driving behavior:
accelerometer (CAN or built-in), gyroscope (CAN or built-in)
speed (CAN or built-in)
o Power consumption
10 - 30V power supply
Very low consumption in standby mode (less than 5mA)
use the connected vehicle to characterize and optimize driving style
use the connected vehicle to characterize:
o road’s risks such as snow,
o breaking information (intensity/duration), ABS, ESP from vehicle or acceleration
information
o capacity to connect sensors such Bosch sensor box
o pollution estimation, work with IFPEN with GecoAir
use the connected vehicle to create information such as map with OSM community such
as Mapillary or Open street Cam
use the connected vehicle to prototype and test toll system: information for driver and
public authority (Cerema for experimentation phase): engine is On/Off, positive toll is
active (Yes/No) in function of position of the car (GPS) and hours: inform the driver LED,
alarm

Use Case N°2 Vehicle as a Service
For startup, company, city who want to prototype car sharing solution,
test, learn, educate
Type of Vehicle: European passenger car (Euro 4 minimum)
General Information:

odometer, fuel level / SOC, lock status, door status, trunk status,
window status, forward / backward

Use Case N°3 Vehicle as a Common
For startup, transport operator, city who want to prototype bus &
minibus information solution, test, learn, educate
Type of Vehicle: Bus and minibus European & non-European for developing country
For European bus:
use high definition / high frequency position tracking and connection with vehicle door
opening system to provide actual bus route shapes between stops.
connection with passengers counting systems to provide information on vehicle
occupancy rate
vehicle position functionalities
o continuous vehicle tracking function: provide vehicle id / vehicle current position
and date time every second
o events detections: stopped vehicle with threshold
upload function from a back office (stop point and waypoints): these point will be used
for proximity detection functions
For paratransit vehicles type minibus for developing countries:
Functionalities
o Monitoring of the routes, stops, commercial speed, to provide data on current
operation
o Provide real time data passenger information
o Monitoring driver behaviour - quality of the driving including acceleration and
deceleration, speed limit respect... for road safety reason
o capacity to connect with Bosch Kit XDK for sensors
Characteristics:
o robust
o low electric consumption (can be connected on the minibus battery)
o not rely on 4G

Tell Us How You Build It
A key aspect of this challenge is sharing knowledge with the community and therefore, we want
participants to document and discuss their experience when building their solution. So we expect
you to blog about things like selection process for your hardware, architecture decisions, etc. Of
course, publishing code and videos is also a great way to engage!
Prize
Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 solutions:
5000€, 2000€ and 1000€ given to the winning teams
Continuation and support of projects with Challenge partners
The solutions will be judged on the following criteria:
Applicability of a solution to one specific use case.
Use of open standards and open source technology
Completeness of solution
Amount of community discussion from the participants when they built their solution
