SPEAKING, PART 2: COMPARING PHOTOS
EXAMINER: You will each be asked to talk for a minute without
interruption. You will each be given two different photographs in turn
to talk about. After your partner has finished speaking, you will be
asked a brief question connected with your partner’s photographs.
Here are your photographs. they show different types of holidays. I’d ike you to
compare these photographs and say WHY YOU THINK THE PEOPLE HAVE
CHOSEN THESE DIFFERENT KINDS OF HOLIDAYS. (question displayed on the
visual)
SPEAKING, PART 2: COMPARING PHOTOS
-THE EXAMINER ALWAYS REPEATS THE INSTRUCTIONS TWICE
- THE QUESTIONS ARE WRITEN ABOVE THE PHOTOS
--THE EXAMINER WILL ASK YOU A QUESTION ABOUT YOUR
PARTNER’S PHOTO
SPEAKING, PART 2: COMPARING
PHOTOS
SPEAKING, PART 2: COMPARING PHOTOS
THERE ARE TWO WAYS YOU CAN DESCRIBE AND COMPARE PHOTOS:
1.Describe photo 1, speculate and answer the question. Then describe photo 2, speculate and
answer the question.
2.Describe photos 1 and 2 comparing both, speculating on both pictures and answering the question
about each photo in turns.
DESCRIBE AND COMPARE PHOTOS IN THREE STEPS:
-STEP 1: Describe and compare WHO arein the photos and WHERE they are
in turns, giving a general view. You can speculate at this stage.
-STEP 2: Give a more detailed description of each picture, focusing on
CLOTHES, ROUGHT PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PEOPLE AND
PLACE (WHAT’S IN THE BACKGROUND/FOREGROUND/RIGHT, LEFT), or
THE WEATHER. Explain WHAT they are doing (ACTIONS). Speculate.
-STEP 3: Answer the question of the task.
SPEAKING, PART 2: COMPARING PHOTOS
why have the people chosen these pets and how do they feel about them?
Here are your photographs. they show people with different pets. Compare these
photographs and say why you think the people have chosen these pets and how
they feel about them. You have a minute to do this.
CANDIDATE B: Which of these would you prefer and why?
DESCRIBE AND COMPARE PHOTOS IN THREE STEPS:
-STEP 1: Describe and compare WHO is in the photos and WHERE they are in turns, giving a general view.
-STEP 2: Give a more detailed description of each picture, focusing on CLOTHES, ROUGHT PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
OF THE PEOPLE AND PLACE (WHAT’S IN THE BACKGROUND/FOREGROUND), or THE WEATHER. Explain WHAT
they are doing (ACTIONS)
-STEP 3: Answer the question of the task.
(1) The first photograph shows/ in the first photograph I can see a group of people in the desert,
with a momunent –the Sphinx- , so they must be in Egypt, whereas the second photograph
shows a woman in a swimming pool.
(2) In the first pìcture, it looks like the people are tourist with a guide who is explaining the history
of the pyramids, which stand in the background. In the second picture, the woman is relaxed in
the swimmingpool, floating on a rubber ring and she is having a soft drink. She’s wearing a hat to
protect herself from the sun.
(3) Probably the people in picture 1 have chose this type of holiday because the are members of a
group or club, and they have common interests. However, the woman in picture 2 has chosen
this type of holiday because it is more relaxing, but probably more expensive than the package
holiday of the first picture, more appropriate for people who can afford to stay in a luxury hotel
and may not be interested in going sightseeing.
I ASSUME
PERHAPS
SPEAKING, PART 2: COMPARING PHOTOS
what would it feel like to grow up in these families?
Here are your photographs. they show two differenf types of fasmily groups.

disadvantages of each of these activities in this situation. Then
decide which two activities should be chosen.
AGREEING:
-If we have to choose…..I’d
suggest…
-I agree on this…
-I believe that the best choice
is

DESCRIBE AND COMPARE PHOTOS IN THREE STEPS: -STEP 1: Describe and compare WHO is in the photos and WHERE they are in turns, giving a general view. -STEP 2: Give a more detailed description of each picture, focusing on CLOTHES, ROUGHT PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PEOPLE AND PLACE (WHAT’S IN THE BACKGROUND/FOREGROUND), or THE WEATHER. Explain WHAT they are doing (ACTIONS) -STEP 3: Answer the question of the task. (1) The first photograph shows/ in the first photograph I can see a group of people in the desert, with a momunent –the Sphinx- , so they must be in Egypt, whereas the second photograph shows a woman in a swimming pool. (2) In the first pìcture, it looks like the people are tourist with a guide who is explaining the history of the pyramids, which stand in the background. In the second picture, the woman is relaxed in the swimmingpool, floating on a rubber ring and she is having a soft drink. She’s wearing a hat to protect herself from the sun. (3) Probably the people in picture 1 have chose this type of holiday because the are members of a group or club, and they have common interests. However, the woman in picture 2 has chosen this type of holiday because it is more relaxing, but probably more expensive than the package holiday of the first picture, more appropriate for people who can afford to stay in a luxury hotel and may not be interested in going sightseeing. I ASSUME PERHAPS
