2. What is Podcasting? A podcast is an audio or video broadcast that is distributed over the Internet. It usually has a format similar to a radio or television show. The term “podcasting” is a combination of two words: IPod and broadcasting. It refers to the automatic downloading of MP3 audio files to a computer or MP3 player. It is not necessary to have the IPod brand itself. Podcasts can be used with many types of digital audio formats and played on any MP3 player or portable digital device.

6. Education Value of Podcasts in the Classroom Podcasts can be created from original material by students and teachers or existing audio files can be downloaded for classroom use. Creating a podcast allow students to share learning experiences. It provides them with a world-wide audience that makes learning meaningful and assessment authentic. Teachers can use the technology to provide additional and revision material to students to download and review at a time that suits them. The flexibility that such time-shifting offers makes podcasting a valuable educational tool.

7. Education Value of Podcasts in the Classroom IPods are for more than just listening to music. Podcasting can enhance student’s musical talents. Podcasting is hands-on learning for students. It fun for the students and it encourages them to want to learn.

9. Conclusion Podcasting is more than just for fun. Many schools use it in the classrooms to assist with student learning. Podcasting is a new generational technology that encourages our kids to learn and to have fun while doing it. I hope to be able to incorporate this into my classroom before the school year is over. Especially in Science and Social Studies projects.
