2. Inner peace is more likely to be sought by people who are experiencing a great ordeal within themselves. Like
the pursuit of happiness, it is mostly elusive and hard to find. For those who are so immersed in their busy
lifestyle, it is easy to go looking for inner peace in the wrong places. Here are 5 ways to help you find the inner
peace you’ve been searching for.
Keep things simple. Inner peace is difficult to achieve if we live a complicated life especially if we
want a lot of things. We want more money, more jewelry, more gadgets, more cars, more recognition,
more time, etc. The more we look for the things we want, the more we lose sight of what we really
need. At the end of the day we find ourselves surrounded with a lot of clutter. Simplify your life. Take
a look around and identify what is important to you and focus on it. You’ll notice that what we want is
not always in alignment with the things that really matter.
Accept what is. Most of us spend a lot of our time worrying on things we have no control over. It can
be as natural as the changing of the seasons, or something more permanent like the aging of our bodies
or what others think about us. All those worrying lead to a lot of stress and anxiety which may end up
in depression. Learn to accept that there are things we cannot change. Realize that there’s only one
person you can control, YOU.
3. Care about others. Inner peace is found in one’s self, but it can also be found in others. When you
stop thinking of only yourself and start caring about other people, you’ll be surprised on how much
goodness you can share. Knowing and proving to yourself that you are not a selfish human being
brings you a different sense of pride and self-worth that no amount of money can match.
Do what you love. When was the last time you did something that you really love? In our efforts to
achieve a comfortable lifestyle, we sometimes end up sacrificing the things that we love to do. Doing
so will make you a bitter person with a lot of regrets in the long run. Find time to do something that
detaches you from all your worries and gets you in touch with your talents. It can be painting, writing
poetry, gardening, or simply playing your favorite sport. Find that inner satisfaction and you’ll find
inner peace.
4. Live in the present. “Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called a present.” I heard this from a priest when
I was 10 years old and stuck in my head for good. It’s not in our responsibility to know the future. We
are born to live in the present and enjoy the life that is given to us. Now is the time to simplify, accept,
care, and do what you love. Stop worrying about tomorrow and appreciate each God-given moment
that you’re alive.
Be positive about inner peace. It’s not something that you have to be stressed about trying to look for it. It is
already inside of you. You just have to take time and realize that it’s there.
“Peace of mind is not a goal I need achieve. It’s a place inside I never want to leave. Close my eyes, I still
my thoughts and then I say I will choose to live in peace today.”
~Robert Alan
