2. Are You Prepared For Your
Medical Assistant Interview?
• After you have put the time and money into
graduating from a medical assistant training program,
you will hopefully begin to receive interview requests
from the offices to which you apply. The initial thrill of
receiving a request for an interview may quickly be
dampened by the fear of being asked a number of
questions and being unprepared.
• This presentation will hopefully help you find your own
answers to five commonly asked questions and to
understand why an interviewer may be asking them.

a medical assistant?

4. 1. Can You Tell Me About
Yourself?
• This question is a great opportunity to reinforce why
you want to be a medical assistant and why you are
the perfect candidate for the job. Consider discussing
your motivations behind being in the medical field,
stay positive, and have a few short stories ready.

5. 2. Have You Ever Had A Negative
Experience In Your Job?
• This is not the time to rant about a previous position
you held, a previous boss or co-worker, or anything
negative at all. The best way to handle this question
is to turn it around with a learning experience.
Explain a situation, briefly, and then focus your
answer on how you handled the situation and the
positive result. You may want to discuss how you are
thankful that there are
medical assistant job opportunities like the one you
are applying for and how you hope to take what you
learned and apply it in the future.

6. 3. Do You Enjoy Being Around
Other People?
• A medical assisting career involves dealing with a
number of different types of people on a daily basis.
The interviewer may have already gauged your
friendliness and personality, but may be giving you a
chance to offer an explanation for your nervousness
in an interview setting or any other issues you may
wish to bring up. As with all of your answers, try to
end on a positive note. You did choose medical
assisting as your career and you should enjoy being
around people and helping where you can;
expressing this with enthusiasm can help convince
the interviewer that you are the right candidate for the
job.

7. 4. What Is The Major Difference Between
A Nurse and A Medical Assistant?
• Both nurses and medical assistants play important
roles as part of a medical team and it is important to
be able to succinctly explain the differences between
them.
• Registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical
nurses (LPNs) - called licensed vocational nurses
(LVN) in Texas and California - tend to provide more
in the way of patient care. Nurses supervise the use
of medical equipment, administer medications, and
communicate between doctor and patient during the
course of an appointment.
• Medical assistants fulfill various rolls depending on
need and their training, experience, and qualifications.

• This question allows you to talk about what attracted
you to the school or medical assistant training
program you attended, as well as some of your
favorite learning memories. You may also choose to
use this question as a chance to discuss other
education you have completed or plan to complete
including certifications.
