They’re also well-known for our Champagne Brunch from 10am-3pm on Sundays. Just want to have a drink and kick back? No problem- come sit at the bar and enjoy a cold one.
Have been coming for several years. Wonderful fish tacos. Excellent blackened shrimp platter with choice of sides, but the sweet potato fries are the best. Tremendous view of the boat traffic in and out of the marina provides me with all the boating I need. Service is rushed, but efficient. The place is bustling with business
Redfish Island was a popular boating destination in Galveston Bay for generations. In fact, an 1851 map of Galveston Bay on display at the Texas Seaport Museum in Galveston shows a group of islands named the “Redfish Islands” in the same general vicinity as the newly restored island. Originally, Redfish was a mile long outcropping of oyster shell reef in the middle of Galveston Bay. There was an abundance of vegetation on the island. It was mostly scrub brush, but it also had some cedar trees and other tough and hardy underbrush. It was a nesting place for many waterfowl including the very colorful roseate spoonbill. From a boater’s perspective, it was a marvelous destination for a weekend sail. It was safe to get to from the west side of the Bay as there was no need to cross the Houston Ship Channel. Once you arrived, the island shielded boats from the wakes of ships passing nearby in the channel. There was also full protection from the prevailing southeast winds. In short, it was a premiere boating destination on Galveston Bay. On a typical summer weekend hundreds of boats anchored in the protected waters and enjoyed the beauty and peace of this natural treasure.Unfortunately, during the late 1980's, the island was washed away due to a combination of ship wakes from traffic in the Ship Channel, storms, and subsidence. The resulting island became a hazardous reef a located a few feet below the surface.Due to the strong voice of the Galveston Bay boating community, the Port of Houston, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Beneficial Use Group, began reconstruction of the island in 2002. The restoration involved loading 140 barge loads of stone to the middle of the Bay, placing more than 206,000 tons of limestone in the Bay to create the island, and then covering the edge of the formation with 3,000 tons of shell and shell hash. Rocks laid on the island range in size from several ounces to as much as 1,600 lbs each. The entire process took just three months and was completed in November 2002. Birds found the island during the construction phase of the project and enjoy a permanent spot on the north end of the island. The island’s new 1.4-acre bird habitat attracts barren-ground nesters such as the least tern, black skimmer, gull-billed terns, forster’s tern, sandwich tern, and royal tern. A 1,000-foot rock dike on the opposing end of the island provides approximately 40 acres of safe anchoring for boaters. Small “cereal” stone placed along the outside perimeter of the island provides oyster habitat.Even though the final product is about a third of the original length of the island, there is about a mile of anchorage area. Boaters should make a sincere effort to familiarize themselves with the restored island. Approach and depart from the north and west. Avoid the area to the south. Any passage in this direction surely will cause an encounter with the shoals of the former island as well as the shallows known as Todd’s Dump.In September 2005, Hurricane Rita damaged the northern shore of Redfish Island but thanks to the Port of Houston and a hurricane supplemental funding grant from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the island was repaired. When, in 2008 the island again received minor damage – this time from Hurricane Ike – repairs were funded by the Hurricane Ike Supplemental and ARRA (American Recovery Reinvestment Act). Hurricane repairs were completed in March 2010.

I am reasonably sure that the GPS coordinates shown below are correct, but the usual TMCA caveat of course applies: "...to be used with your own judgment as a captain, and at your own risk."The route is described and some notes are provided for several of the waypoints. By utilizing the "Larry's Cut" route, I avoid the shoaling in the marked channel south of Bird Island. The portion of the route between waypoints SP-L1 and SP-L3 is still shallow, and I always traverse this area at idle speed!Between SP-L3 and SMPT there is usually somewhat more water, but it is still an unforgiving channel, with a hard shell bottom on the green side. Don’t go there!!! There is shoaling on the red side also, but the bottom there is typically more muddy. I slightly favor the reds, but still proceed at a slow speed. Wind, and especially cross-currents, can quickly push you out of the channel on this leg, so do keep looking at the markers behind you as back-ranges. Once past SMPT the channel deepens and should cause no trouble. So here is the route:CLC02 N 29d 33.166' W 94d 59.508' Marker #2 start pointSBC-8 N 29d 32.409' W 94d 55.092' South Boater Cut #8SBC-1 N 29d 32.615' W 94d 53.233' South Boater Cut #1VIETVIL N 29d 32.880' W 94d 51.125' a point north and clear of all the wellhead junk, etc.SP-L1 N 29d 32.625' W 94d 48.820' a point NW of Bird Island along the 1 fathom lineSP-L2 N 29d 32.750' W 94d 48.065' north end of "Larry's Cut"SP-L3 N 29d 32.565' W 94d 47.830' south end of "Larry's Cut" (inside the Trinity channel)SMPT N 29d 32.825' W 94d 47.440' green marker (see below)SMPT-BL N 29d 32.845' W 94d 47.265' in the Trinity channel opposite the boat launchSMPT-SB N 29d 32.790’ W 94d 46.815' Spoonbill RV ParkSP-L1 is an arbitrary point at the 1 fathom line on the chart, where it changes from white to blue. I use this point to aim for as it seems to be the closest to the start of "Larry's Cut".SP-L2 thru SP-L3 is the route thru the cut. You are actually only in the "cut" for a brief period as you cross thru the (mostly shell) "spoil bank" on the north side of the channel. I just made it a nice long leg so that you can make sure you are lined up, etc.SP-L3 should put you more-or-less in the center of the Trinity Channel, and you should be able to see some red & green channel markers to that effect. But beware of poles that may have their dayboards knocked off so that you do not know what color they are. It can get real confusing real fast in that situation! So at SP-L3 you will make a +/- 90 degree turn to port, putting you on an approximately NE heading up the Trinity channel.SMPT is near the green marker (not sure of the marker number) that you should see up ahead of you as the channel enters the land area. It is near also near the man-made Geotube island that has been created on the north side of the channel. Again, be especially careful of possible strong cross-currents that may tend to drift you out of the channel.\\ SMPT-SB is the location of Spoonbill RV Park.

Allen’s Landing is the spot where in 1836 that August C. and John K. Allen stepped ashore and claimed Houston as their own. The confluence of Buffalo and White Oak bayous became Houston’s first port and a thriving commercial hub. At Allen’s Landing, the historical birthplace of Houston, White Oak Bayou meets Buffalo Bayou. From Allen’s Landing east, Buffalo Bayou becomes much wider and deeper. The Bayou flows through the East End of Houston to the Turning Basin and the Ship Channel.
Double Bayou is a two-forked, narrow but deep estuary that winds through pastureland rich with animal and birdlife. It’s located on the northeast shore of Trinity Bay, which is part of the Galveston Bay system. Marker 17 Restaurant can provide power hookups for as many as 7 boats. North of Galveston, across the Trinity Bay from Kemah, is a new resort of sorts.Oak Island thriving after Ike with hotel, restaurant and marketOak Island, between the east and west forks of the Double Bayou eight miles south of Anahuac in central Chambers County, was named for an island of oak trees near the bayou's mouth. In 1880 Joshua Harmon moved a cotton gin across the bay to the site of what is now Job Beason Park, but the community was founded in 1951 by real-estate developers Charles Troy and R. L. Hall on what was then the site of a fishing camp. In 1966 the community had 147 residents and a seasonal population of 500 to 600 tourists. The inhabitants included workers on nearby offshore drilling rigs and persons engaged in fishing, oystering, and boat manufacturing. A municipal water system was installed in 1966. Oak Island was still listed as a community in 1990. By 2000 the population was 255.These days folks usually stay at the Oak Island Marina for Easter Weekend and explore the bayou in outboards and dinghies. From the marina, you can walk to a motel, a restaurant, a playground and grocery store.
Guests at the Yacht Club are encouraged to make themselves at home, to relax, and enjoy the many amenities. The non-fisherman in your party will have no problem finding activities including a day at the beach, lunch at the Harborside Café or an afternoon by the pool. You will find what you need to make the day relaxing and enjoyable.
