My DeVry University Senior Project – Mimic Motion Control
This project is designed to allow a user to control a robotic arm with a sleeve rig worn on their
own arm. The sleeve is embed with variable resistors and an accelerometer/compass sensor,
creating a real time mimic controller that operates the robotic arm. Our group created this
project with the purpose of designing a control system that would have the applications for
multiple industries and medical purposes as well. A system like this would allow a user to
perform tasks in environments not accessible to people for safety/health reasons. The cleanup of
a toxic spill, handling radioactive materials without risk using a system that requires little to no
training by the operator. As group leader I was task with designating group members roles/tasks,
reviewing all work done, keeping the progress of the project on course with our time table, and I
also fulfilled the role of hardware design/development. I helped each of my team members
whether it involved creating the software to control the system or the documentation of our work
as we progressed. We used multiple micro-controller platforms and design small circuits to
control the power of the PWM control signals. Due to our limited budget for the project, we
were unable to develop of full aim of making the project wirelessly controlled, but feel that such
an improvement would expand the applications even further.
