2. Introduction
• Since April 2016, Erol Onel, MD, has served as the vice president for Heron
Therapeutics, based in La Jolla, California. In this capacity, he works closely with a
team in hopes of getting a long-acting but non-opioid pain medication approved.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Erol Onel is a fan of the Boston Red Sox MLB
team.
In late July, the Red Sox acquired former San Francisco Giants player Eduardo
Nunez, trading the infielder for Gregory Santos and Shaun Anderson, two minor
league right-hand pitchers. Announced after a San Francisco win over the
Pittsburgh Pirates, the deal was first confirmed the previous night via Fox Sports
reporter, Ken Rosenthal.
Nunez started his MLB career with the Yankees, where he learned the game from
team greats like Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter. After New York, Nunez played for
Minnesota before his brief run with the Giants this year.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy praised the 30-year-old Nunez, saying that he is “very
talented,” and that, “he can play anywhere.” Nunez, himself, said he is excited for
the opportunity to play for a championship team.
