Teachers in the Sunyani Municipality in Ghana are faced with problem of accommodation. We need about 500 housing units in order to solve the problem. Since the government cannot do it alone there is the need of public-private partnership. The only problem we have is funding for this project since the teachers are willing to pay for it within a period of 15 years.
1. HOUSING PROJECT FOR TEACHERS IN SUNYANI-GHANA
BY ERNEST APRAKU
The problem I have identified in my community is inadequate housing facilities for Teachers
in the Sunyani Municipality. The community needs 500 housing units. It needs the
collaboration by the public and the private sector to provide the houses (indicated by the arrow
1) to the teachers (indicated by the arrow 2). This partnership is suggested by Ms. Afsaneh
Beschloss video, President and CEO of Rock Creek Group, on the institutional investors’
perspective in financing development. The teachers would therefore pay back the cost of the
investment with interest in 10 years to the private firms and the government (indicated by the
arrow 3). This interest factor is important since the private sector can participate more

One housing unit will cost $50,000. Therefore 500 housing units will cost $25m. The teachers
will pay $60,000 for one housing unit within a period of 15 years, totalling $30m for the 500
housing units. This will generate a profit of 16.67% for the investors.
